Will you need rib cartilage for your rhinoplasty?
This is one of the questions I hear most often — especially from patients considering revision rhinoplasty.
The answer is: not necessarily.
Whenever possible, we use the cartilage already available in the nose. But in revision cases, when septal cartilage is insufficient, or when the nose requires stronger structural support, rib cartilage may be needed.
Rib cartilage gives us strong, versatile material that can be carefully shaped according to each patient’s anatomy and surgical plan.
And an important point: rib cartilage doesn’t mean a bigger or unnatural-looking nose. It is simply a structural tool that helps us build the support the nose needs.
Every nose is different. So is every surgical plan.

After surgery, even something that may seem small can feel important or worrying to a patient — and sometimes, it truly can be. That’s why we never want our patients to hesitate, wait too long, or wonder whether they should contact us.

Before every rhinoplasty is completed, I carefully evaluate nostril symmetry, base width, and balance. Sometimes, a difference of just a millimeter can change the final result.
