“Great value and a real Turkish experience”

I had stumbled across this place on a visit to Istanbul in November last year and didn't realise what a find it was until I visited more touristy, luxurious places on my most recent trip. Its great value for money, a real Turkish experience and you come away feeling so clean.

I had been to a grand hamam in Sultanahmet 25 years ago, but it is now very expensive. I decided to try a local hamam in Kadikoy, up the street from the buses. I was really pleased. It was a little confusing at first, but after a bit I figured it out. There was a family there, about 10 AM on a Saturday morning. Two young attorneys, their mom, aunt, and grandmother. Later, talked to one of the young women. They go together as a family about every three months. They mentioned they like this one... good quality and not tourist prices. The younger women helped the older with shampooing and rinsing. I was not asked which services I wanted when I arrived. I ended up with the works. The scrub, oil massage, wash, and shampoo for 45 Turkish Lira - $15 and generous tip. Great deal. My hubby was over the men's side and had a similar experience. We hope to go again at the end of our trip.

Staff don't speak English, but they guided very well during the bath. I received a great massage I could stay relaxing for a long time in the sauna without being bothered.

Aziziye hamam This hammam not far from Kadikoy dock is absolutely untouristy and affordable. It's one of the oldest in the area and managed to avoid spa-fication. Visit it for the spirit of authentic Turkish ritual, simplicity and practicality. You'll get a cheap bath and massage and lots of impressions –resonant…
