CORRECTIVE LIP NEUTRALIZATION — IT’S NOT JUST ABOUT ADDING COLOR.
This client came to me with previously tattooed lips that had an uneven, deeper tone and needed correction before achieving a true lip blush.
Corrective work is NOT simply putting pink over the lips.
WHAT I CORRECTED: 🤷🏽♀️
01 — UNDERLYING TONE
The lips needed to be brought toward a more balanced, warm foundation by correcting unwanted undertones first.
02 — COLOR SELECTION
Her pigment was chosen based on her lips, undertone, previous pigment and how they were expected to heal — not a Pinterest photo.
03 — TECHNIQUE
Corrective work requires control. Overworking the lips or oversaturating them can create more problems.
04 — BUILDING THE FOUNDATION
Correction is a process. More than one session may be needed, and healing must happen before deciding the next step.
IMPORTANT: This is a fresh result, not the final healed color.
This is why I always say:

Tell your artist the overall look you want — soft, rosy, natural or warm — and trust their professional understanding of color theory, neutralization, pigment behavior and healing.

This is why I always tell my clients: trust the process—and trust your artist.
When treating melanin-rich or cool-toned lips, the goal is not always to have the lips heal looking immediately pink, rosy, or “cool.”
Some lips are meant to heal warm first. 🔥
Lip neutralization is a corrective process. The lip needs to be properly neutralized according to its natural undertone before we can move into the blushing stage.
You don’t choose your neutralizing color. Your artist does.
Why? Because choosing the correct modifier and pigment is based on the lip’s:
• Natural undertone
• Depth of melanin
• Areas of darkness
• Warmth/coolness
• How the skin is expected to respond and heal
Trying to force a cool or pink color onto a lip that requires warmth can actually work against the correction process.
