The Hollywood sign was created in 1923, but not at all as a symbol of the world's dream factory. It was just an advertisement for new residential neighborhoods in Los Angeles, and the inscription was longer: HOLLYWOODLAND.

The sign was supposed to last about a year and a half, but due to the rapid development of the Hollywood film industry, it was decided to leave it.
