You may need to put on your sunglasses to look at this cake, because it's full of the brightest rainbow buttercream I've ever made!
Instagram is practically brimming with super cute number and letter-themed cakes, inspired by Instagrammer Adi Klinghofer, otherwise known as . Recently, my friends at Food Network asked me to create a version of this cake for their website, and I was thrilled to be asked. My spin on this trend is a veritable trip to Candy Land, with sour candies, Sixlets, pink candy bars, dipped doughnuts, and -what else? - lots and lots of sprinkles!

Consider these the chocolate-hazelnut cousin of bourbon balls. The two candies have similar virtues, such as they are both made with very few ingredients and they both improve upon standing. They make a great holiday gift - and bonus - they ship well! I love sending these to my out-of-state friends because I know they'll survive the journey and taste even better after two days in transit. This 'snowball' version is covered in powdered sugar and I just love the wintry look it gives them.

I've always liked hummus. It's healthy, it's filling, it's easy to make. Basically it's the perfect snack, light lunch, or addition to a sandwich.
But I've always preferred something other then the usual garlic hummus.
If I'm making hummus it's going to be something like this black bean hummus, not boring old garlic hummus.
But then I tried homemade roasted garlic hummus, and I've changed my tune. It's delicious.

These Apple Muffins are incredibly soft, moist, filled with chunks of fresh apples, and topped with an easy crumb topping. Perfect for breakfast or dessert!
Do you love baking with apples? I love apples because they add so much moisture and flavor to baked goods. So today, I wanted to share one of my favorite apple creations this fall – these apple crumb muffins!
These muffins are incredibly simple to throw together and a great way to use up any extra apples you may have on hand this time of year. I topped these with a crumb topping and a vanilla glaze, but you can easily leave them off for regular apple cinnamon muffins.
These muffins will also freeze well, so you can keep some in the freezer for a rainy day. Plus, who doesn’t love a recipe that doubles as breakfast or dessert?!

This spatula is the first of its kind. I call it my Reduction Spatula. So many recipes both sweet and savory say to reduce liquid by a certain amount but without pouring it out of the pan and measuring it there is no way to know when you have reached the goal.
This reducing spatula, made by American Products Group, has raised markings which will not wear off. It can be used in a microwave or cooktop. It also can be used to stir while waiting for the liquid to reduce.
If a recipe says to reduce the liquid by half, for example, it's easy to see when it reaches that mark. If it says to reduce the liquid from, for example, 4 cups to 1 cup, depending on the size pan used, one simply has to pour 4 cups into the pan, insert the spatula, and see what mark it comes to. Then let it reduce to a quarter of the mark. As an example: the liquid measures at 2”; just let the liquid reduce to the ½” mark.
Additionally, when reducing in a microwave, keeping the spatula in the microwavable container prevents air bubbles from forming in the liquid and causing it to burst out of the container without needing to stir or swirl the liquid you are reducing.
The spatula is industrial food grade silicone with a metal core for durability. Dishwasher safe too.
On the Amazon photo, the marking are highlighted in white for visibility when viewing on line.

I'm addicted to making macarons lately. And I have no intention of stopping until I iron out the little creases that are the imperfections in my biscuits. As if I'm going to stop when I do finally get them perfect. Ha!
They're so addictive and so appealing to make. It's becoming and\ obsession. There are so many colours and flavours and possibilities just begging to be explored.
My major challenge at the moment is getting the biscuits all the same size. No matter how carefully I drew the circles and how carefully I piped, they'd always be different. I'd spend ages trying to match up same-sized biscuits, getting grumpy about the misshapen ones. So I thought it was time to try something new.

I hadn't planned a blog post for today but this smart little recipe convinced me to go ahead and share. I've been on a major smoothie kick for the last few months. My steadfast favorite is bright green because I load it with leafy greens that I don't get enough of with regular eating. Even though I love my green smoothie I sometimes need a break from it and that's how I discovered this drink. It's from one of my favorite out-of-print books called The New Mayo Clinic Cookbook. It's light and healthful with flavor reminiscent of orange Creamsicle ice cream.

Date Walnut Bread Recipe Demonstration - Joyofbaking.com
Recipe here: http://www.joyofbaking.com/breakfast/DateWalnutBread.html Stephanie Jaworski of Joyofbaking.com demonstrates how to make Date Walnut Bread. Date Walnut Bread is a very nice tea bread bursting with the flavor of sweet dates and crunchy walnuts. The first recipes for this bread began to appear in the 1920s, and it was so popular in the 1930s that it was used to make tea sandwiches. In fact, these tea sandwiches are so delicious you may want to try them. Take two thin slices of your Date and Walnut Bread and sandwich them together with a layer of cream cheese or butter. Then cut the bread into fingers, squares or triangles. We welcome questions on our page: http://www.facebook.com/joyofbaking

I've been a bit obsessed with lemon lately. Maybe because it's February and I always start longing for spring about this time. Maybe because it feels like spring this year even though it's only February. It's actually kind of annoying.
I hate to say that, because really, when it's cold we whine about how cold it is here - and this year it's been SO warm, and we're whining about that. Well, my kids are I are.
