The Japan Today publication reports that in the Land of the Rising Sun a drink was invented, similar in taste and appearance to coffee, which is made from garlic.

The invention belongs to a resident of Aomori Prefecture, in the north of the country. The inventor of the drink, 74-year-old Ekitomo Shimotai, says that the idea for the drink came to him 30 years ago, when he was the owner of a coffee shop.

Having accidentally overcooked garlic while cooking steaks, the thrifty Japanese did not throw away the product, but decided to chop it and pour hot water over it. Surprisingly, the drink tasted like bitter coffee.

The Japanese returned to the idea of ​​a garlic drink only after retirement. Repeated experiments made it possible to achieve the desired result. The procedure for preparing the drink involves roasting the garlic in an electric oven and chopping it after it has cooled.

“Probably my drink is the first of its kind in the world. It is caffeine-free, so it is suitable for pregnant women and those who like to drink coffee at night, ”explained Simotai.
