In the old days in the Balkans, a person who committed a misdemeanor had to plant a plum near the road so that the priest would forgive his sins. Roads throughout the peninsula still pass in the shade of plum trees.

The genus of plums includes many plants that were previously considered independent species and have separate names in Russian - for example, cherry, almond, sweet cherry, apricot, peach, bird cherry, and so on. In total, the genus of plums consists of more than 250 species.

Even in ancient times, there was a tradition on the Balkan Peninsula, according to which a person who wants a priest to forgive his sins planted a plum tree near the road. That is why there are so many plums growing everywhere in the Balkan countries, for example, in Albania and Serbia

A plum tree can live an average of about 25-30 years, but it will bear fruit only for 10-15 years.

Plum is a genus of plants in the Rosaceae family. Includes about 250 species, distributed mainly in the northern temperate regions of the globe. Many representatives of the genus are widely known fruit crops. Many of the species now included in the genus Prunus were previously classified as separate genera.
