The fact of the matter is that opinions about proper nutrition are exactly the opposite. If you look on the Internet, what ordinary people can find about it. Vegetarians write that a plant-based diet causes diseases to disappear, rejuvenates, and increases life expectancy.
I have looked at a large number of scientific articles published in reputable scientific journals. There is no unequivocal opinion on this.
I would like to cite two scientific articles that review articles on vegetarian diets. One of them reviewed 205 scientific studies on the effects of a vegetarian diet on the human body and brain [1].
They found robust evidence of short-term and sometimes medium-term beneficial effects of plant-based diets compared to conventional diets on weight status, systemic inflammation in healthy participants, obese patients and type 2 diabetics. The long-term effects have not been investigated, and I believe it is premature to draw general conclusions.
Another study shows that vegetarians have a lower prevalence of overweight and obesity and a lower risk of developing CHD compared to non-vegetarians. It's almost as if there's evidence that there's less cancer among vegetarians, but it's not statistically confirmed.
The overall mortality rate is the same for vegetarians and comparable non-vegetarians [2]. Still, it is believed that the findings are not enough. Long-term studies are needed, which do not exist and are difficult to conduct. So the debate on the Internet will continue.
