MAJID MUSIS UGANDA'S LEGENDARY SPORTS MAN

Uganda: Remembering Majid Musisi, Nation's First Professional Footballer; HIS first shot at football was during his teenage years, in a little known football team, Mulago FC. This team, nonetheless, pioneered Majid Musisi's journey to being regarded by many as Uganda's alltime best player and more, Uganda's first professional footballer in Europe.
He soon left Mulago FC and moved to Pepsi-Cola FC. While there, his knack for scoring goals caught the eye of local club SC Villa and he was promptly taken on in 1985. Two years down the road, Musisi was Uganda's most excellent football striker, topping the scoring charts in nearly all tournaments. Majid's goal scoring ability earned him several nick-names, the prominent ones being 'Tyson' and 'Magic.'
Magic, because of his miraculous skill to craft way for and score goals and Tyson in reference to his physique that looked like that of former boxer Mike Tyson.
In 1991, his skills led Villa to its first ever champions league finals. The following year, he made history by becoming the first Ugandan to sign a contract for professional football in Europe, with French second division club Stade De Rennes. He was then traded to Turkish Club Bursaspor in 1994. It was here that he played his greatest football, making him one of the greatest players in the Turkish league, where he won accolades for Player of the Month and Foreign Player of the Year. There, he also founded the now famous Bursaspor crocodile walk goal celebration.
In 1998, he was traded to Dardanelspor, another Turkish Club, at a record Ugandan fee of sh1.8bn. From there, Musisi returned home to SC Villa, as he pondered on retirement.
On December 13, 2005, the 38-year-old died at the gate of Nsambya Hospital, as they rushed him for medical attention after an illness.

We still proud of You musis. you made our Country proud

THE BUGANDA LAKE WAMALA IN MITYANA DISTRICT

Lake Wamala is a freshwater lake in Uganda. Its wetlands contain endangered species of birds and animals including the sitatunga ("enjobe" in Luganda).

The lake is of traditional and cultural significance to the people of Buganda in Central Uganda

The lake is shared by the districts of Mubende, Mityana, and Gomba in the Buganda Region of Uganda. The road distance between downtown Mityana and Kalyankoko, Kimuli, Mityana District, on the eastern shores of Lake Wamala is approximately 17 kilometres (11 mi)

More than 4,000 years ago Lake Wamala was part of Lake Victoria, but has since receded into its current state. One apocryphal myth supposes that Lake Wamala derives its name from KING WAMALA the last monarch of the Bachwezi dynasty and that King Wamala disappeared into the lake at a site near Lubajja fishing village called Nakyegalika and his spirit resides in the lake.

The vegetation surrounding Lake Wamala is dominated by papyrus, other floaters, and water-based vegetation. There are also trees such as Raphia and other palms. A variety of animal species such as sitatunga, wild pigs, hippopotamus, bushbuck, waterbuck, vervet monkey, baboon, guinea fowl, and turaco live near the lake. Existing fish species include tilapia, catfish, and lungfish, Being a muddy lake , there's no nile perch.

During the 1960s and the early 1970s, Lake Wamala was an important source of both fresh and smoked fish sold locally and in the big towns in Buganda. Due to mismanagement and uncontrolled, unregulated commercial fishing on the lake, the fish were depleted in the mid-1970s. Climate change has also worsened the lake conditions, to the detriment of the local fishermen and their families.
