Operculectomy a minor procedure done to remove part of the gum covering an erupting third molar
This is done to reduce the risk of food debris and other materials from affecting the gum wch would otherwise lead to inflammation hence pain of the offending tooth

Dental caries is a progressive microbial disease that leads to the demineralistion and declassification of the hard tooth structures such as the enamel,dentine,pulp and the roots.
The disease mainly starts from the outer most portion of the tooth and at this state it can be called enamel caries
It continues towards the second layer of the tooth called dentine
At this stage its called dentine caries.
As a wave of microorganisms mainly bacteria continue to go down the tooth they attract the living tissue called the pulp leading to inflammation of the living tissue therefore pulpitis wch is the inflammation of the pulpal tissue
As decay continues the roots are exposed hence root caries
