Advice for younger or new beauty service providers:

Your reputation will FOLLOW YOU forever. In a world where professionalism is rapidly declining, and making connections will literally make or break you, you need to speak as if everything you say will get read back to you in court (or on social media.)

Communication is probably the most important part of human interaction, let alone during a business transaction. Talk to and treat people the way you’d expect to be treated, if not BETTER. You’re a direct reflection of your business. Even when the other person is frustrated or upset, AS A BUSINESS OWNER it is your job to remain neutral & professional bc the smallest ways you handle conflict can be detrimental to the deescalation process. Sometimes you just need to bite the bullet. Grateful my school taught me more than just perms and blowouts. They taught us how to be successful in an interview, how to be a team player, client interaction etc. Some of you may need some continuing education and/or a refresher on the basics, but it’s really important you do.

People (& I myself) get turned off by bad attitude, matter of fact tones, flip flopping, bashing the previous stylists etc. No one wants to PAY YOU to sit for hours with bad vibes & nobody owes you anything!

Also policies and boundaries are super important but so is being human and giving people grace. Do with that information what you will (:
