Starting a career isn’t hard - it just takes dedication, investing time and money into yourself to ensure you are set up in the best way possible.

💡So before you can even begin your career, you have to know what it’s gonna take.

How do you deal with clients who are worried about pain during permanent makeup appointments?

The number 1 question asked about cosmetic tattooing is “WILL IT HURT?”

So the first thing you should know when becoming a permanent makeup artist is how to ease your client’s minds.

When they come to you with this concern, you need to be proficient in explaining what you will use to reduce sensitivity and make your client comfortable throughout the entire process.

Before bringing the tattoo machine near your client’s face, you will go through a few steps, including consulting, mapping and then applying a numbing agent.

✨Numbing✨ is what we are talking about today!

You will have primary numbing agents and then secondary numbing - for pain that starts to creep up during the appointment.

*It is also good to note that while this is the common practice to reduce pain, there are some artists who don’t use numbing agents at all.*

Branding isn’t just your logo or colors, it’s how your business is perceived.

As a PMU artist, your brand should communicate trust, professionalism, & consistency.

And it should set you apart from others in your industry.

Before a client ever sits in your chair, they’ve already decided how they feel about your work based on your branding.

Strong branding builds confidence, while weak branding creates hesitation.

If you want to grow in this industry, this is something you can’t overlook!

Scar softening, also referred to as scar revision or scar camouflage, is a form of paramedical tattooing focused on improving the appearance of scars by blending them more seamlessly into the surrounding skin.

As this area of paramedical tattooing continues to grow, it’s becoming an important service for both artists and clients to understand.

It requires thoughtful technique, knowledge of skin healing, and realistic expectations when working with different types of scar tissue.

In this video, Kelly explains what scar softening is, how it works, and what to consider whether you’re interested in receiving the service or learning more as a cosmetic tattoo/permanent makeup artist.

Breaking into the permanent makeup industry is harder than ever, due to stricter regulations and more extensive training requirements.

And this is a GOOD thing, because we’re doing cosmetic tattoos.

And it shouldn’t be super easy to become a permanent makeup artist. You should have to complete in-depth training, apprenticeships, and working on a lot of different skin types before tattooing people’s faces on your own and charging high-end pricing.

Kelly gives you insights into what will go into starting your permanent makeup career and what resources you have available to you.
