Long standing town of the nation's longest 4th of July parade.

Did you know that Alameda’s 4th of July Parade is the longest in the nation? Watch as more than 160 entries and 2,500 participants travel along Park Street before proceeding to Webster Street, a route that spans 3.3 miles. As we gather to celebrate, this is a chance to reflect on our shared values and the ongoing journey toward freedom and justice for all. Downtown Alameda is proud to be the backdrop for this diverse celebration that unites our community each year, and truly exemplifies Alameda’s (unofficial) motto, “Everyone Belongs Here”! The parade starts at 10:00am at the corner of Park Street and Lincoln Avenue. Some of the best viewing spots are along Park Street where the performances, cheering, and flag waving are especially exciting along the first stretch of the parade. For a front row seat along the sidewalks, plan to arrive well before the parade’s start time. Happy Mother's Day!
This is my mama at the Wong's Benevolent Association in Oakland Chinatown, just blocks from where I grew up and near my FASTSIGNS Oakland center in Jack London Square.
She was the Women's Auxillary board member for some years and is still active within the organization.
Her story of leaving China at the age of 19, and not seeing her own mother in person until she visited China again in her fifties is one about resilience, adaptability and strength that I cannot fathom myself.
That was a time before flights were plenty, FaceTime was not available yet and visiting China was not easily accessible.
I have had the luxury of having my mom live with me for over 3 decades. She was a huge help in raising my boys and allowed me the time to build my businesses.
I am thankful and blessed.
