(For customer service or to contact us, please visit the support link in the About section or in the footer of our website.) came along in 1999, the options were limited to mainly those that contained chemical pesticides, pyrethrum, and permethrin. Pyrethrum, an insecticide derived from chrysanthemum plants, and Permethrin, a synthetic insecticide, were (are) used in agriculture to combat pests that threatened the livelihood of crops. Unfortunately, both can be harsh when used to treat head lice but were long considered the standard for lice treatment. In the late 1990’s, after a horrendous experience treating her own daughter with a permethrin-based lice treatment, one of our very own moms was determined to come up with a head lice treatment free of permethrin and pyrethrum. After hours of research and testing, the Original Non-toxic head lice treatment, homeopathic Licefreee! Gel was created, hitting retail shelves in 1999. Over the years, we’ve added more products to our beloved line of safe solutions including Licefreee Spray!, the Licefreee! Kit which includes Licefreee! Gel and Licefreee Everyday! Daily maintenance shampoo, and now, Licefreee! We hope to help you solve all of your lice woes and remain lice-free, always!

When it comes to lice infestations, many myths and misconceptions persist.
Some people believe that lice prefer dirty hair, while others think these tiny pests are more attracted to straight or curly hair. 💈🪮
Let's debunk some of these myths and uncover what kind of hair lice actually prefer…
❌️ Myth 1: Lice Prefer Dirty Hair
One of the most common misconceptions is that lice are attracted to dirty or unwashed hair. Lice do not discriminate between dirty and clean hair; they seek warmth from the human head paired with a constant food source.
❌️ Myth 2: Lice Prefer Straight Hair
Another common myth is that lice prefer straight hair because it's easier to navigate. However, the hair type—straight, wavy, curly, or coily—does not influence a louse's preference.
❌️ Myth 3: Lice Prefer Long Hair
The misconception here is that lice prefer longer hair simply because there's more of it to inhabit. While longer hair might provide more 'real estate' for lice, it doesn't necessarily attract them more than short hair.
❌️ Myth 4: Lice Can't Infest Dyed or Treated Hair
Lice can indeed infest dyed or treated hair. While some harsh chemicals can kill lice, regular hair dye or treatment products are not potent enough. If a louse has already laid its eggs before the hair is treated, the dye might not kill the nits protected by a hard shell.
🤔 So, What Kind of Hair Do Lice Like?
In essence, lice are not fussy creatures. They do not prefer dirty hair over clean, straight hair over curly, or long hair over short. Hair, for lice, is nothing more than a means of transportation and a location to lay eggs. Lice are simply looking for a human scalp from which to feed.
Ultimately, understanding the truth about lice and their preferences can help dispel unnecessary stigma and anxiety, allowing for more effective prevention and treatment strategies.
