One question I’ve received recently is why I started making my own infused oils.

For the Calendula & Chamomile balm, I slowly infused each herb into separate jars of olive oil before incorporating them into the finished balm. My goal wasn’t simply to add scent—it was to use ingredients that have a long history in traditional skincare while keeping the ingredient list simple and understandable.

I believe skincare works best when every ingredient has a purpose.

It’s Saturday, the stand is open, and I have a couple new additions from Side Quest Tallow Provisions heading out this morning.

In addition to my original whipped and solid tallow balms, tallow soap, and hand-poured unscented candles, I now have two new whipped balm variations available:

🌼 Calendula & Chamomile Whipped Balm
Made with olive oil that I infused in-house with calendula and chamomile before incorporating it into the balm. A simple addition inspired by traditional ingredients that have been valued in skincare for generations.

🌿 Whipped Balm with Jojoba Oil
This version includes jojoba oil alongside the olive oil and tallow. Jojoba is known for being remarkably compatible with the skin and tends to absorb a bit faster, making this balm feel slightly lighter while still providing excellent skin support.

At Side Quest, we do not use essential oils in our products. That choice is intentional.

Many skincare products rely on essential oils for strong fragrance, but essential oils are extremely concentrated plant extracts and can be irritating for sensitive skin — especially with repeated daily use.

Instead, we chose a slower, gentler approach.

We’ve begun infusing extra virgin olive oil with whole calendula flowers and chamomile. This allows the beneficial properties of the plants to slowly transfer into the oil without creating the highly concentrated intensity that comes with essential oils.

Calendula has long been valued for calming and supporting dry, stressed skin, while chamomile is traditionally associated with soothing and comfort. When infused into olive oil and blended into our tallow balms, they help support the product naturally while keeping the formula simple and skin-focused.

The result is subtle.
Not perfume.
Not overpowering.
Just functional ingredients working together the way they were meant to.

You may notice a faint natural aroma from the herbs themselves, but the purpose is function first — not fragrance.

No artificial fragrance.
No unnecessary fillers.
