💜 “Color correction” what does it make you think? Something is wrong? Something bad has happened? Sure, sometimes. But sometimes it just means you’re changing it up and your hair needs an overhaul.
This babe has been a mermaid for about three years and felt like it was time to go back to something a bit more natural.
If you’re looking to switch things up either becoming a mermaid yourself or figuring out how to move away from it book a consultation today!
Consultations are required before a big service like this so we can have a game plan. I want to make sure we’re on the same page for the goal and realistic outcome. At the consultation I can get your hair history and a test strand can be done in the event we’ll need to do any lightening.
Here are some ways you can prep for a color correction:
1) Use hot water and shampoo with Dawn dish soap. If you do this be sure to use a deep conditioning mask afterwards as it is going to really raise the ph of your hair.
2) Use a deep conditioner or repairing mask - discuss what’s best for your hair with your stylist.
3) Be prepared to buy some new products to help support the service you’re receiving. Whether or not you buy them from the salon you’re going to the products should be professional quality. Pro products can be purchased at salons, ulta, Sephora, sometimes directly from the manufacturer. Buying from the salon saves you an extra trip elsewhere and supports the business but the other places are fine. I do not recommend places like TJMaxx and Amazon, you never know what you’re getting. Hair is a multibillion dollar industry and there are plenty of counterfeit products out there.

💜 I want to take a moment to express how deeply important it is to me that every client who sits in my chair feels seen and heard. Whether it’s checking in on how much length we’re taking off, making sure “chestnut” means the same color to both of us, or ensuring that you’re completely comfortable with your hair care plan, your satisfaction and comfort are always my top priorities.
💜 I also feel I owe you an apology and an explanation. The past two and a half months have been incredibly challenging for me due to the unexpected passing of my stepmother. I’ve had to step away from social media to focus on processing and personal matters. I apologize if I haven’t been as communicative as usual during this time.
💜 To those who noticed my absence and reached out to check in, your kindness has meant the world to me. Your support and understanding have been greatly appreciated in these difficult times, and I am deeply grateful for each and every one of you.
💜 Thank you for your patience, your compassion, and your continued trust. I look forward to seeing you soon and catching up with your life while we continue our journey towards your hair goals.
Gratefully yours,
Molly

💜Tired of mixed messages and uncertainty when it comes to caring for your hair and your specific needs? If so, I’m here to help. I want to know what your pain points are and I want to help educate you about your hair, areas you can make small changes with big impacts. Want my top tips that help everyone?
1) Get a water filter for your shower, the high iron and calcium content in water around here is weighing down and drying out your skin and hair. Have you had issues with a flaky itchy scalp since moving to the DMV? While it may have other causes it is 100% being exacerbated by mineral build up.
2) Lather rinse, repeat. You need to be shampooing twice when you wash your hair. You’re likely over using product looking to get a bubbly foamy lather. The first wash breaks up the build up, the second one helps actually get it out. Even with high quality professional products you’ll get buildup if you’re only shampooing once, it will just take longer.
3) High quality products are not only an investment in your hair and scalp health, they’re an investment in your time and peace of mind. How so? Because high quality products yield better results which means clean hair that lasts longer, feels better and is easier to manage so you can live your life not having to worry about your hair.
4) Build a relationship with a hairstylist. Licensure just means we can do your hair safely, it doesn’t speak to skill set or knowledge. I know it takes time and energy but finding the right stylist for YOU is so important. Find someone who gives a f**k about you, your hair and helping you achieve your goals. Helping you understand and having a better relationship with your hair is paramount. Find someone who is education focused, both their own education and teaching you.

It’s so annoying when you get super cute new bangs but the wind won’t cooperate! That’s all I got today, no tips, tricks or valuable information, sorry. Oh! Yes I do, go drink some water, it’s so good for you. What else? 🤔 Take a deep breath. Focus on relaxing your shoulders as you exhale. Now think of three things that make you happy. Did you feel any of the muscles in your face move? I know I don’t always smile thinking of happy things but I do relax out of my RBF. Think of three things you’re grateful for. If any of them today are people let them know. Ok, that’s all I got. Have a great day, you’re a badass.

💜 Highlighted hair *DOES NOT* need to mean sitting in the salon for hours every 6 weeks.
Back story: She had been doing her own hair and felt pretty happy with her results but wanted to learn more about keeping her hair healthy. She was also ready to let someone else take over the cutting and coloring and after a recommendation from a friend and stalking my IG she decided it was time. So Let’s look at this babe’s appointments over the last few years:
Aug 2021: cut/color correction/full highlights
November 2021: cut and toner
May 2022: cut/full highlights
August 2022: cut/acidic bonding treatment
October 2022: cut/full highlights
December 2022: cut/acidic bonding treatment
At this point she decided she wanted to down shift how blonde she was
February 2023: cut
May 2023: cut/face framing highlights
July 2023: cut/partial highlight
October 2023: cut/partial highlight
December 2023: cut and toner
March 2024: cut (pictured above)

💜 Are you shampooing effectively? 🤔
When you shampoo you want to be doing it twice, lather, rinse, REPEAT. I know it may feel like an extra step but it’s necessary!
Here’s why: shampoo does two things
1) It raises the ph at the scalp and the hair. The cuticle of the hair at the scalp is new and does not want to be fluffed up, but oil and buildup still happen there and so it needs to be raised just enough to get it clean along the edges of that cuticle.
2) Secondly it has surfactants which help create an emulsion allowing oils and dirt on your hair and scalp to mix with water rather than just repelling it so they can be washed away.
💜 So when you shampoo the first time you’re raising that ph a bit and breaking up and emulsifying those oils and dirt (products, sweat and whatever other debris you may have) but it’s not quite enough to get it all the way out. So the second shampoo goes in and gets that emulsion out. This is usually enough but if you have a lot of buildup you may even want to shampoo a third time.
💜 You may be asking, “But Molly, how do I know if I should wash a third time?”
💜 If you are shampooing between 1-3x week you should notice that the first lather doesn’t get as sudsy as the second lather; regardless of using sulfate free shampoo. If there isn’t much of a difference between your first and second shampoo I’d suggest doing it a third time.
💜 If you’re using drugstore/grocery store/health food store products you’re going to get buildup over time, it’s inevitable regardless of the lather rinse repeat. If you’re using salon quality products and you’re not double shampooing you’re also going to get buildup over time, also inevitable. It will just take much longer.
💜 You can see in the second and third picture the lather in shampoo 1 vs the lather in shampoo 2? Was this helpful for anyone?

💜 Low Maintenance Story Time! First of all, can you please share what low maintenance means to you? I think we all have different ideas of what it is which can lead us all to be a bit confused. So… You can see her before in the last picture. That’s the grow out from her last appointment almost a year ago.
💜 This babe comes from NY to see me, we started doing vivid hair in 2020. But late 2022 she decided she’s done with fashion colors for now and wanted to go back to blonde. To take advantage of the density of blonde she had from being teal and purple we kept that lightness and made her a rootier blonde.
💜 At this appointment we did highlights and baby lights to blend in her natural roots as well as some lowlights to blend out any line of demarcation and to add some visual depth back into her hair.
💜 To me, this is low maintenance hair color. I’ve seen her 5 times since 2021. Our services are on the longer side because more time consuming techniques need to be implemented to ensure she gets the longevity of a look and smooth grow out. But - she doesn’t need to be in here every 6 weeks and her hair still looks good.
👉🏻And so I ask you, what does low maintenance color mean to you?

People have been asking about this recently. So here it is. Yes, this is a jade Mjölnir. I saw it and I had to have it. Because duh. I’m a crystal dragon and this is part of my hoard 😂
Are you a crystal hoarder too?
Do you like comics?
Do you have a favorite super hero?
Do you have a favorite villain?
(Not rhetorical 👆🏻 I’m asking you)
If you are interested in being surrounded by crystals and talking about nerdy/witchy/weird ish while you get your hair done I might be the stylist for you.

💜 Tired of rushed salon experiences? I invite you to a welcoming hair haven where questions are answered, advice is given, knowledge is imparted and you’re treated like the bomb ass human you are. You deserve to feel seen and heard and you deserve to understand your hair. Don’t take my word for it though, here’s a recent review…
“I LOVE going to see Molly to get my hair done. Her setup is so relaxing and pretty. Complimentary drinks and snacks. She even asks on her intake form what music you like so she can put in on for you.
Her prices are reasonable and she really takes the time to explain better ways to manage my hair, from washing methods to styling. I’ve never had a hair stylist so passionate and willing to educate. While I haven’t gotten color with her yet, her cuts for my wavy (2a-2c) are wonderful. I cannot recommend her enough!” -Anne Komer
💜 I’m curious, what’re some grievances you’ve had going to a salon appointment? I’ll go first: years ago my stylist moved from one salon to another and while it was a stunning space the atmosphere was… I can’t quite put my finger on it but I didn’t feel cool enough to be there. Add to that blowdries weren’t included and so I had to learn to give myself a blowout. Little did I know at the time that experience was shaping what I wanted to avoid at my salon one day.
💜 Have you ever felt unwelcome, small, insignificant, uncool, out of place, unseen, or something else uncomfortable at a new salon?
