Hello, I'm Lauren!

Photos from Murphy's Beauty Law Onsite Makeup Artist's post 03/01/2024

I went off the grid for a bit to process and cope with that has been going on with my pregnancy. I originally had planned to take 2024 off to enjoy maternity leave and dedicate myself 100% to my baby and embrace mom life to the fullest. As any wedding vendor knows, we have to wear so many hats while family, friends, and meaningful events on our lives are often put on the back burner in order to juggle other people’s happiest days. While the wedding industry has been a huge part of my identity and life, my priorities and timeline have changed. So to take pressure off of myself I have decided to take a step back from my business indefinitely as to better focus on myself, my baby, and my family

Michael and I found out some shocking and devastating news about our baby boy. Right before Christmas, at our 22 week anatomy scan, we were told our boy had a rare and life threatening birth defect called Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH). CDH is a birth defect that affects roughly 1 in 3,000 babies. Essentially, it’s a hole in the diaphragm (the muscle that is below the lungs responsible for breathing and separates your chest cavity from your abdomen). This hole allows the abdominal organs (eg. spleen, liver, intestines, stomach) to move into the chest, and prevents the lungs from developing normally because of the lack of space to grow.

The difference of sticking within your own knowledge of makeup and your comfort level VS. if you hand the reins over to your makeup artist and have your makeup done in the ARTISTS style of makeup.

I totally get being used to doing your makeup a specific way. Many of my clients rarely wear makeup, dont understand how to apply something so they never did, or are just stuck doing what they have always done. Which is natural because it’s all you know. If you have your makeup artist do the majority of your face the way you already do it…it’ll look how you basically already do your makeup just a little more polished.

For example, if you tell your artist “I want focus on my eyes, make them POP, contour and flawless skin”. But if you follow it up with contradictions to that request then you won’t have the look you asked for because of the limitations of what you’re used to.

It never hurts to allow the pros to do what they think would achieve the look you asked for. If you feel like it’s not you, then go back and incorporate whatever specific makeup step you do on a normal basis. Either way you will be able to see two different looks.

Wedding and holiday inspo!!

If you want to keep your eyes soft but love sparkle then this is a perfect look for you!
What makes shadows like this one different is that it’s translucent glitter. So you can throw it on top of any shadow without covering what’s underneath or you can wear it alone. When your eyes move the light catches the glitter just right making it perfect for wedding day looks and the holidays.

My favorite shadows that do this are:
in moonstone
ethereal palette (there’s 3 shades that I always use)

I am so excited to FINALLY (yay 2nd trimester!!!) announce my husband and I are expecting our first baby boy April 2024! 🌈💙

2024 books will be closed as I will be taking much needed time off to bond with my baby and prioritize myself and my family during this special time. I won’t be gone forever but I do want to keep everyone in the loop and share part of my journey in this new mom era 🥹. Thank you to everyone for your support and understanding during a once in a lifetime experience!

Client: “I want a bold smokey eye. Like really bold with a wing liner.”

Me: “Have you had that look before? Do you typically wear that?”

Client: “No.”

Whether or not you’ve had your makeup professionally done FOR A WEDDING (prom 10 years ago doesn’t count nor does at Sephora) the day of a wedding is not the time to go too far outside the box. For the wedding party especially, what you think is “bold” might either be subtle or it’s venturing into what I call “bachelorette/night time makeup”. If you’re standing in a wedding and you pick a look that doesn’t look uniform to everyone or the makeup artists style will makes you stand out in a not so positive way then the whole party together may look off balance. We want the focus on the bride! We can’t do that if your eye makeup is pure black and smokey while everyone is in this very angelic makeup, ya know?

That does not mean you can’t have some edge or wear a bold wing liner. But remember we want it to look cohesive with the party and look timeless in photos that cost a lot of money! If you want to try that fun cool Pinterest photo makeup that’s not totally wedding vibes then plan another time for an appointment- don’t request that from your artist. 😊

I won’t to make your mother look like a clown!!! 🤡

I repeat. I WON’T MAKE YOUR MOTHER LOOK LIKE A CLOWN! That is not limited to “looking crazy”, “looking like a drag queen”, “looking dead”. All of these rude comments have been told/ requested of me for over 10 years and frankly…it’s rude and clown behavior to suggest I would.🙃

To my amazing brides having their mothers or aunts, bridesmaids, and wedding party getting their makeup done, please tell them I won’t makeup them look like (insert rude request here) and know that I want them to feel beautiful and look professionally done. Not how they do their makeup but also not “crazy”.

Same eye look, different people.

They both wanted the same look but different lip colors. Other than their complexion shades being custom to them, there’s not really a different. Changing certain aspects, like a lip color, is not going to change the WHOLE look. Too often, I have people say “I love this look but I don’t like that lip color.” That’s fine, you can pick a different color because the client chose that color!

If you love a look but don’t love the whole look, save it anyway because that’s a minor thing we can change. The more photos you have the better for you and your artist to get on the same page. And there’s nothing that can’t be tweaked to your personal liking.
