Many of us have justifiably done whatever we could to make ends meet during these unreasonably prolonged and unscientifically based lockdowns. The PBFC has even defended COVID-compliant establishments who reopened in defiance of these groundless orders.

Moreover, we have been working closely with our State Board to provide a legal means of freelancing outside a licensed establishment — via a “Personal Service Permit” which is in the final stages of regulatory adoption.

However, as our industry has won concessions from the Governor and individual county health officers and begun to reopen, some continue to choose to remain underground. We are concerned, as is our State Board, that this growing movement threatens the safety of our clientele and undermines the overall professionalism of our industry.

Here is the State Board’s very serious warning in this regard:

🔵Please be reminded that under California law, all acts of barbering, cosmetology (including nail and skin care), and electrology services must be performed by a licensee in a licensed establishment. If you are performing services without a license and/or outside a licensed establishment’s premises, you are engaged in unlicensed activity and subject to a $1,000 fine. If you are aware of unlicensed activity outside of a licensed establishment, including public advertisements of such illegal activity, please continue to promote professionalism within the industry by filing a consumer complaint with the Board.

🔵Le recordamos que, según la ley de California, todos los trabajos de peluquería, cosmetología (incluyendo el cuidado de las uñas y la piel) y los servicios de electrología deben ser realizados por un licenciatario en un establecimiento autorizado. Si está realizando servicios sin licencia y/o fuera de las instalaciones de un establecimiento con licencia, está realizando una actividad sin licencia y está sujeto a una multa de $1,000. Si está al tanto de una actividad sin licencia fuera de un establecimiento con licencia, incluyendo anuncios públicos de dicha actividad ilegal, continúe promoviendo el profesionalismo dentro de la industria presentando una reclamación del consumidor ante la Junta.
