A quick note from The Plaid Mushroom

I discovered yesterday that Facebook Messenger failed to deliver a customer message to my desktop inbox. Actually it still doesn't show up from my computer, but I saw it yesterday on my phone app - much later than it was originally sent - and showing "read" so it wasn't lit up as something I needed to respond to. Unfortunately, by the time I received it, I wasn’t able to prepare her Aurora Discovery Set in time for Mother’s Day.

I feel terrible about it, because she had reached out ahead of time, and with plenty of time, and I truly never saw the message.

🍄 The story behind the name: The Plaid Mushroom

Years ago, I came across an old childhood photo that instantly made me smile.

It’s me—just a little kid in the 70's, sitting in a camp chair, out in the middle of nowhere with my family. Dusty boots, wild hair, and completely content being outside.

But what really caught my attention was the adorable shirt I was wearing. A tiny mushroom…with a plaid cap.

The moment I saw the photo, it just felt right. Simple, a little quirky, a little outdoorsy—and full of personality.

That little plaid mushroom stuck with me.

25 years ago, when it came time to name my business, I didn’t want something trendy or overthought. I wanted something that felt like me—something rooted in real life, simple moments, and a love for natural, everyday things.

And The Plaid Mushroom was born.
