Yall. I hand painted her 9 MONTHS AGO. Hace nueve meses!!!! (So pumped about my Spanish journey couldn’t help myself). This is how it looks 9 months later šŸ˜

Today she came in for a maintenance appt which consisted of a gloss and a cut. The last time lightener touched her hair was October 29, 2025. THIS right here is the beauty of a hand paint. It grows out seamlessly and organically which gives crazy longevity and still looks bangin. I’ll scream about my love of balayage from every rooftop I can until my lungs give out. There’s a million reason why hand painting is (in my opinion) the best service out there and this right here is numero uno ✨

Balayage > Everything

This is Amika: Backrooms — where I get early access to something brand new from Amika.
I can’t wait to experiment and find out what it does and how it will benefit my clients overall experience.

amikapro never misses so I have full faith in whatever this is being exceptional. So stay tuned for the journey where I’ll be testing it out and sharing what I’m experiencing image.png

Today I found out that I received my second nomination in the HAIR AWARDS , and I’m genuinely so grateful and honored to be up here with so much insaneee talent.

I came into the salon on my day off to do her as a model because I had an idea that wouldn’t leave me alone. I asked my model if she’d trust me with creative freedom, she did, and we spent the day creating something simply because I needed to get this cut and color out of my brain and onto a canvas.

This is really why I enter competitions. Not because I feel I need to beat someone else or because I need external validation, but because I like to push myself and see what I can create when I create freely.

The only person I’m interested in competing with is the version of myself that existed before this collection.

I’ve been doing hair for 20 years, and I still feel like a student. There is always another technique to learn, another mistake to make, another idea to chase. I hope I never lose that. I hope none of us everrrr do!!

To my model—thank you for trusting my vision. This sweet mama is a good friend of mine 🄹

To everyone who has ever sat in my chair, cheered me on, challenged me, or believed in me… thank you. Every single one of you has played a part in making me a better artist.

Congratulations to everyone who was nominated and had the balls to enter. Your work inspires me more than you’ll probably ever know.

Thank you Mary Rector Kevin Givens and everyone at behindthechair.com for always making me want to push myself, and for recognizing my art ā¤ļø

Today’s Ted Talk is about softness and how the hard s**t has a purpose. Stay with me cuz I’m goin deep. So much of IG is carefully curated to show people the ā€œperfectā€, I don’t believe in that and I think being vulnerable and sharing lived life experience is really important. I value deep conversation and try to have them whenever possible. I’ll always use my platform as a place to keep it real, whether it’s appreciated or not. Authenticity over everything, always.

There was a time when I thought all the hard things would make me hard and that heartbreak would make me guarded. That betrayal would make me bitter, disappointment would make me smaller. For a while I thought I’d stop believing in people altogether. But then I got my head out of my ass and realized the bigger picture and the exact opposite happened.

Every painful season cracked me open a little wider. The moments I felt misunderstood taught me to listen longer, the times I was judged taught me to look at people with more empathy, the times I was let down taught me how powerful honesty, accountability and kindness really are.

I’ve become softer than ever. Not weaker, softer. That doesn’t mean I’ve lost my backbone. You’re allowed to say, ā€œThat hurt me.ā€ ā€œThat isn’t okay.ā€ ā€œI deserve better.ā€ ā€œNo.ā€ And still be a good person and choose love after the fact.

People often think resilience is surviving what broke you. I think resilience is surviving it without becoming the thing that hurt you.

So if you’re walking through a season that feels impossibly heavy, please hear this: your pain does not have to turn you cold. It can deepen your empathy if you let it. It can sharpen your discernment if you let it. It can make you the safe place you once needed.

Some of us were walked through the fire so we could carry a light into the dark for others. If my storms have given me anything, it’s this: a bigger heart, a stronger voice, and a deeper understanding of what people are potentially carrying.

You can still be kind without being a doormat. Hardships can teach you how to love people better, if you let them. Kindness is a choice, choose it anyway yall.
