Little by little, we’re getting this sweet girl back to her blonde. 🤍

She darkened her hair at home and decided she wanted to go back lighter, so we’ve been taking our time and doing it in sessions rather than trying to force it all at once. We’re two sessions in now, and she’s getting so close. I think one more should do it!

I absolutely love having her in my chair. She is just the sweetest, and I’ve really enjoyed getting her hair back where she wants it.

Fall must be on its way because the red and copper requests have officially started rolling in. It sure doesn’t feel like fall outside, but my chair says otherwise. 🍂🍁❤️‍🔥

Sometimes it doesn’t take anything extravagant to make a big difference. 🤎

So, we keep it simple. I did her retouch and added some caramel highlights to her darker hair. With her dark hair and dark eyes, caramel was the perfect place to start. On a first session, we can only lift so much, and honestly, she didn’t need blonde to make this look beautiful.

Blonde isn’t made for everybody, and that’s one of the things I love most about hairdressing. There are so many different colors, shades and tones to choose from that we can find something to suit every skin tone, personality, like and dislike.

Sometimes you don’t need a huge change. Sometimes a little color in just the right places is enough to make you feel different, refreshed and happy.

And that’s where having a hairdresser you can talk to makes such a difference. You can come in with an idea, a picture, or maybe just know that you want something different without really knowing exactly what that is. We can talk about it, look at things together, bounce ideas around and find what feels right for you.

Sometimes the best hair isn’t the biggest change. Sometimes simple is simply enough. 🤎

A little calico cat inspiration came to life on this one, and I am OBSESSED (not sure if that’s even strong enough of a word) with how all those colors play together. 🧡🤎🤍

Now for the full disclaimer because this kind of color is definitely not a “works on every head” situation. 👇🏼

This started with a red box dye. And yes, there’s a BIG difference between red box dye and black or super dark brown box dye. We already knew going into this that the red was not going to lift to a super bright, clean blonde, and thankfully that wasn’t what my client wanted anyway. ❤️

Red box color can leave behind a lot of warmth, usually gold, copper, orange or red tones, even after you lighten it. That warmth is part of what we have to work with.

And dark box dye? That’s a whole different animal. 😂 It is heavily pigmented, designed to give pretty predictable results on a wide range of hair, and can be extremely stubborn to remove. That’s why I’m always cautious when someone tells me they have dark box color on their hair. Sometimes we can lighten it beautifully. Sometimes the hair simply has limits, and trying to force it can mean sacrificing the condition of the hair.

The goal isn’t always to get every head of hair to some predetermined shade. Sometimes it’s about looking at what the hair CAN do and creating something really cool with it.
