Hello everyone! I know there have been lots of questions circling about the status of our family business and I’m happy to announce: L.A Nails is officially open again for business!

Last week, we got the okay from the state board to begin operation again! We also would like to announce that we are under new management by a special lady you may be familiar with, Miss July Tran! Don’t fret though, Sue will still be working at the shop but she is taking a well deserved rest from the stress of business ownership and taking the extra time to focus on family. We appreciate all of the love and support we’ve received and are so happy to continue serving the community that uplifts us.

We want to take a moment to address the recent temporary closure of our nail salon and clear up any confusion.

As many of you know, our beloved owner, Travis (or Steve), recently passed away. During this incredibly difficult time, Sue stepped in to continue running the salon and serving the community he cared about so deeply. Unfortunately, there were some issues with the paperwork for the transfer of ownership and we were recently informed by the State Board that the salon must temporarily close while this is corrected. This closure is strictly administrative in nature and is not related to health, safety, or service concerns.

We are aware that there have been rumors circulating online, and we kindly ask that you refrain from spreading misinformation. This has been an extremely challenging time for the family and our team, and we truly appreciate your patience, understanding, and continued support. We promise to keep you updated every step of the way.

Thank you for standing with us and supporting our small business during this time.

Happy mother’s day to all of the mothers and mother figures in our little community 💐

I also want to wish an extra special mother’s day to our personal superwoman, Sue (Xuan). She is the most resilient, kind, and loving woman. It’s crazy to think she came into our lives just over 10 years ago. She is the mom who stepped up to the plate of caring for not one but FOUR young girls as well as our father. This year has been absolutely devastating and life-altering, but despite this she has always made sure that we feel loved and protected. Our family is extremely lucky to have her. Chúc mừng ngày lễ mẹ ❤️

Thank you to everyone who made this first full week back such a success! We appreciate all of the kind words and seeing so many friendly faces ❤️ I just wanted to clear up any residual confusion and make a formal announcement that L.A Nails will be closed on Sundays until further notice. Enjoy the rest of the weekend!

We're open today! We have two employees working today and two assistants working half of the day, so we recommend calling ahead for an appointment. If you are a walk-in and don't mind the wait, we welcome you! Thank you guys so much for being so supportive of our small business

UPDATE: We have updated the reopening date to be Thursday, April 3rd. We apologize for the confusion.

I know many of you have questions about whether the business will remain and I’m here to tell you that LA Nails will return for a soft opening this Thursday, April 3rd.

Words cannot express the gratitude we have for the endless support from the members of our LA Nails community. The hugs, tearful stories, flowers, cards, and more have helped us survive this devastating time for our family. Our customers are like family to us and we could never leave that nor Travis’ legacy behind. I ask that you please bear with us as we have fewer employees and are still processing the events of these past few weeks.

I also have a personal request as Travis’ daughter (the face behind this account). As some of you may know my stepmom came to this country to help support my dad and our family. She came without knowing how to speak English or drive a car or take care of teenage girls. However, she has never stopped trying. She has been a beacon of light in our lives and I ask of you all to please be patient with her and all of our employees. We will continue to uphold the principle of the customer always being right, but as a daughter who has seen two parents lose a spouse I urge you to be gentle with them navigating the language barrier. If you have complaints, please direct then to this account’s message box and I can assure you that we will all work to make sure they are addressed.

Thank you all.

Thank you all for the support. We are so grateful for our village of people that have brought food, clothes, and sent thoughtful messages our way. The service for our dad will be held at Lux Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Mt. Pleasant, MI. The visitation for guests will be on Monday, March 24th from 4-7 pm (open casket) and also Tuesday, March 25th from 10-11 am (closed casket) at Lux Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant.

If you would like to bring flowers to the nail salon, please put them outside the front door. If you have any cards or flowers for the family, please contact Cristina Smith.

We also would appreciate support in contacting all news outlets that have published articles about the incident and asking them to rephrase their titles to be less descriptive (i.e saying "Travis Nguyen has passed" instead of including graphic language). As I mentioned previously, we have 3 young girls that do not know the extent of the situation and should not be hearing of it via the internet.

We are devastated and heartbroken about the loss of our community’s beloved Travis (or Steve as some of you know him by). He was the kindest man, father, brother, and husband. He was such a special part of Alma and touched the lives of everyone he met. We are at a loss of words and are trying to navigate this difficult time with family. We ask you to please keep this family in your prayers and minimize the amount of misinformation online. His wife and children are being heavily impacted by this tragedy and need to be able to grieve without outside noise.

If you would like to support his family during this time, please consider donating to their gofundme. This will help the family to support the younger daughters while figuring out a new source of income.
