One of last week’s fun transformations was a balayage and color melt with a long layered trim…she decided she was ready for a big change in going back lighter with a more blended looking root growout that we’d consulted about during her last all over color appointment.

The balayage service is low maintenance, we usually balayage all over once or twice a year and color melt with a trim every 6-8 weeks to keep her salt & peppers blended and natural looking.

What I especially love about doing balayages with a color melt or root blur/root shade is how customized I get to make the final look and that it already has a lived in look…no solid root grow out lines!

One of last week’s fun transformations was a balayage and tone with a major cut change…we precut about 2 inches off the back right before I started the balayage and then right after we toned she decided she was ready for the big change we’d been consulting about since her last appointment…she surprised me with wanting to take the plunge on a bob! We cut a total of about 6 inches off the back and 3-4 inches off the front (she previously had a long layered look). What a fun, new look for her and she sent me this selfie after she fixed it for the first time herself today 😍😍👏🏻👏🏻🎉🎉

This color service is very low maintenance, we usually balayage and tone once a year and then she uses my recommended toning products at home to keep it bright and not brassy. We’re not doing any color services between the balayage and tone so her only in between maintenance is a fresh cut every 6-8 weeks.

I think she’s going to love having a fuller look to her fine hair with us bringing it above her shoulders! We did an undercut bob with a slight swing. We talked about layers and stacking the back but this was a really big change in length so I wanted to send her home with the easiest way to style it so she can decide if she wants to tweak anything at her next appointment.

Pam’s lowlights…we give her sunkissed strands of a deep, dark coppery blonde for a low maintenance look with lots of dimension and shine! This grows out very subtle with almost no line of demarcation so she can go 6-12 weeks before touching up again…she currently comes in every 6 weeks for her lowlights and a trim/cut.

I love doing all kinds of color services & especially love something that looks natural, blends greys and has a lived in look.

It’s Spring Break in Amarillo and I’ve enjoyed having some of my teenage guests in this week to freshen up their styles! Pyper is the brunette and Sophia is the red head…both have really fun, low maintenance looks that they can wear multiple ways and go months between touch ups too.

Being a stylist of 32 years this year means I’ve had thousands of heads of hair in my chair. I have seen every kind of issue from thinning to fine to damaged to dry to oily to countless combinations of all of those!

It’s been awhile since I’ve colored my hair - both my hubbs and I love my salt & pepper! But I wanted a little fun change that still looks natural, shows off my high and low tones that my salt & pepper contribute and no commitment if I want to let this fade and be cut off. Demi permanent hair color is so much fun because it’s super customizable, blends your greys and doesn’t look like one solid color…it looks like highlights and lowlights with a softer look, more natural look and much softer grow out line…not so solid like permanent color can be. I usually get my haircut every 4 weeks so it will be fading between the next couple haircuts and not be obvious that it’s growing out if I don’t want to keep it up. Definitely a fun way to have a new look, try out coloring my hair and no extra commitment if I don’t want any🥰🥰🥰👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

This shows off some indoor and outdoor lighting…I used a warm/cool neutral level 8 which is a medium blonde color…blended into my salt & peppers it looks like a medium brown inside and a dark reddish blonde in more direct sunlight. It’s so interesting to see what our natural hair colors can contribute to artificial hair color…have fun with your hair!!!

I’m so grateful for those who call me their stylist. Many days I feel like I’m part stylist, part therapist because of the personal and sacred things that are shared while in my chair.

This week alone I had guests who are full time care givers to their spouses, contemplating major surgeries, going through major life changes, considering retirement, those who are trying to figure out their next chapter as this one’s coming to a close. So many people with so many feels.

I am grateful to be a safe space, a listening ear, a voice of encouragement, a partner to pray with. Whatever is needed. I’ll always try my best to be at my best for each person I have the privilege to serve.

Don’t forget to take care of yourself. To my clients who are full time care givers that I’ve seen recently, I’ve wanted to tell them it’s ok that they’re not up to being a full time care giver 24/7. It’s ok to get help. It’s ok to accept help. It’s ok to ask for help. It’s ok to pay for help. It’s ok to have help so you can sleep, pay bills, go get your hair done, go get a coffee, go sing with your favorite group at church, go walk around HomeGoods to just breathe. You can’t keep pouring from an empty cup. You are seen. You are heard. You are tired. You need a break & you’d want your spouse to take a break if you were them seeing how hard this has been on you.
