Apparently, the cold + rainy weather is my body’s way of saying… SLOW DOWN. ☔️
My joints have been reminding me lately that recovery isn’t optional. My personal journey has an RA component, but joint aches and pains can also be a very real part of the perimenopause transition.
As estrogen declines, it affects more than our cycles and our hot flashes. Estrogen plays an important role in bone health, muscle, tendons, ligaments and joints. Changes during this phase of life can contribute to increased joint discomfort, changes in tendon health, and greater concern for maintaining bone density and strength.
And honestly? This is one more reason I believe we need to rethink what “balance” looks like in this season of life.
Today, my version of productivity looked a little different. ❤️
✨ Got the house cleaned
✨ Got some movement in
✨ Hot tea
✨ Sauna
✨ Stretching + range of motion
✨ And giving my body permission to recover
Because taking care of ourselves doesn’t mean we’re doing less. Sometimes it means we’re being more intentional about what our body actually needs.
And this is where strength training, mobility work and physical therapy can make such a difference. We don’t just want to manage the aches—we want to maintain strength, protect our bones, support our tendons and keep our bodies moving well for the years ahead.
So today, I also booked my PT appointment with Alisa to help me work through this RA flare and figure out how to keep moving without pushing my body past what it can handle.
Perimenopause is a season of change—and sometimes the strongest thing we can do is listen to our bodies, adjust the plan and recover. 🤍
What does recovery look like for you today?

As a working mom with two jobs, a small business, two busy kids and a husband who doesn’t stop…..sometimes there aren’t enough hours in the day to do all of the things I NEED to do let alone WANT or should be doing. Sometimes needed movement looks like bribing my 9 year old with Starbucks and deep cleaning that small business on a beautiful day while we have the time. Sometimes the little wins mean the most. Now I need to finish cleaning so we can watch football and enjoy the rest of this beautiful fall day! GO HAWKS!! IYKYK 🖤💛🖤💛

Perimenopause is about more than hormones. It’s also about protecting your strength, mobility, bone health, and quality of life. 💪🏼
That’s where Alisa, our DPT, comes in. She can help identify movement limitations, build strength safely, address pain or injuries, and create an individualized plan to keep you moving confidently through every stage of menopause.
Because feeling better isn’t just about how you feel today—it’s about building a stronger, more capable body for the years ahead. 🤍
Hormones + movement + strength = a more complete approach to women’s health.

Did you know matcha contains L-theanine? It crosses the blood-brain barrier to increase calming brain chemicals like GABA, serotonin, and dopamine while lowering stress hormones like cortisol

🥩🥔🍎 **Want to lose weight without feeling hungry? Start with the Satiety Index.**
Not all calories keep you full the same way.
The **Satiety Index** ranks foods based on how satisfied they leave you after eating. Choosing foods higher on this scale can naturally reduce cravings, decrease snacking, and make weight loss feel much easier.
⭐ Some of the highest satiety foods include:
• 🥔 Boiled potatoes
• 🥚 Eggs
• 🐟 Fish
• 🥩 Lean beef
• 🧀 Cottage cheese
• 🥣 Oatmeal
• 🍎 Apples
• 🫘 Beans and lentils
• 🥦 Non-starchy vegetables
• 🍿 Air-popped popcorn
Foods that are **high in protein, fiber, and water** tend to keep you fuller longer than ultra-processed foods that digest quickly.
💡 Remember: Weight loss isn't about being hungry all day. It's about making choices that work *with* your body's biology—not against it.
If you're constantly hungry while trying to lose weight, it may not be a lack of willpower. It may be that your meals aren't providing enough satiety.
At You Turn Balance, we help you build a sustainable plan that combines nutrition, movement, hormones, and (when appropriate) medications to help you reach your goals—without feeling deprived.

**Noticing more breakouts since starting a GLP-1 medication? You're not imagining it. 👀**
While medications like GLP-1s can be incredible tools for improving metabolic health and supporting weight loss, some people notice unexpected skin changes—including acne or breakouts.
Here's why it can happen:
✨ **Hormonal shifts** – As your body loses fat, stored hormones can be released, temporarily affecting oil production and triggering acne.
✨ **Changes in nutrition** – Eating less can sometimes mean you're not getting enough protein, healthy fats, zinc, or other nutrients that support healthy skin.
✨ **Stress on the body** – Rapid weight loss is a major physiological change. Increased cortisol and inflammation can contribute to breakouts.
✨ **Changes in skincare needs** – As your skin changes, the products that used to work may no longer be the best fit.
The good news? **You don't have to choose between reaching your health goals and having healthy skin.**
At You Turn, we take a whole-body approach. We look beyond the prescription by helping optimize nutrition, supporting hormones, recommending targeted supplements when appropriate, and creating customized skincare treatments to calm inflammation and restore your skin.
Your skin is often a reflection of what's happening inside your body—and when we support both, that's where the magic happens. ✨
Have you noticed changes in your skin while on a GLP-1? We'd love to help you feel confident in your health **and** your skin.

Did you know that strength training becomes even more important during perimenopause and menopause?
As estrogen declines, it's not just your muscles and bones that change—your tendons do too. Tendons become thinner, stiffer, and less able to tolerate stress, increasing your risk of strains, tendon injuries, and nagging aches and pains.
That's why jumping into a new workout routine without proper guidance can sometimes do more harm than good.
Strength training is one of the best things you can do to maintain muscle, support bone density, boost metabolism, and protect your joints—but how you train matters.
💪 That's where Alisa, our Doctor of Physical Therapy, comes in.
She'll evaluate how your body moves, identify muscle imbalances and mobility limitations, and design a personalized resistance training program that helps you build strength safely while reducing your risk of injury.
The goal isn't just to lift weights—it's to build a body that's strong, resilient, and prepared for the years ahead.
Don't let fear of injury keep you from getting stronger. Let us help you move with confidence.
📍Schedule a movement assessment/evaluation with Alisa and invest in your future strength.
The best time to start feeling better was months ago. The second best time is today.
