Silver Linings Salon
Silver Linings is a small in-home studio salon located in Upper Marlboro, Maryland founded by Nikki Sitting in that stylist’s chair, giddy, awaiting the reveal.
That feeling of butterflies in your stomach from pure anticipation of a new ‘do. I LOVE that feeling, but I love nothing more than standing on the other side of that chair, creating those butterflies! I take each client’s “look” into my hands with the utmost consideration, and research until the ends of Pinterest until we both have a ‘do that we’re giddy about. I realized early on that basking in
Remember in the beginning of quarantine when moms were hailed as real-life heroes while they were forced to balance work-life with mom-homeschool teacher-chef-nanny-counselor life? And then summer hit and things kind of got... presumably normal? I just wanted to take a second to say: things aren't normal. Motherhood is NOT normal right now.
Pregnancy excitement is met with more concerns than the usual, which in itself, is a lot. Moms of newborns are stripped of the boastful right to parade their flippin' adorable baby around fam functions out of the fear of corona. Hiding in the pantry is about as much of a "break" as you get from energizer-toddlers. And keeping your cool while teaching geometry to your pre-teen while also hosting a Zoom call for work will probably kill you before it makes you stronger.
So, to all the moms who felt like heroes in the beginning, but are starting to question who they even are as an individual anymore, I see you — and you're doing amazing. If I could send you all pocket-sized 's to crack open when you need it most, I totally would. Share with a mom who probably needs a little reminder that she's got this 🧡
This video was SO fun {and sweaty 😂} to make!! Man, these bloggers who do this on the reg » mad props 👊🏼 I’m finally sharing 6 ways to style this $5 {!!!} shirt from ! Links to every look, head to toe, on the blog » and I don’t think there’s anything over $30!
No braid-skills needed! I get it, braiding is hard » fingers get in the way, and do you go over or under, and s**t, you dropped a piece... it’s a skill, ya’ll, don’t be so hard on yourself. Especially because you can still get beachwaves by just TWISTING. Stupid easy. If you can’t nail the Gwen Stefani buns then I don’t know if I can help you 🤪
Check out those pencil thin 2002 brows 😱 If you were a teen in the early 2000’s you mayyy have overplucked like me and now have no brows. I know this is a thing because so many of my HS friends have turned to microblading so they can have more than 5 eyebrow hairs » but I’m just not ready to pull the trigger on that justtt yet. I came across Wunderbrow Gel randomly through Hilary Duff and got me and my sis completely hooked! It takes like 4 minutes to fill them in and then you’re set for daysss. And it’s Uber inexpensive » linked in my Beauty Buys shopping guide!
P.S. I switch back and forth between using brunette and black/brown, depending on the time of year. Sometimes I like a lighter brow, and sometimes I like a more pronounced striking brow 🤷🏻♀️
Super easy way to dress up a bun when it’s hotter than helllll and you wanna wear your hair up, but like, you also want to be festive & cute ✌🏼 Use braid balm to smooth your braid before you add the bandana. Check the tip before you start braiding about how to add the bandana in » it acts as the third strand of the braid! Wrap it around into a bun {or even leave the braid out!} and secure with hair pins. Tag me in any of your braided bandana bun posts!!

Fleeing quarantine like ✌🏼✌🏼✌🏼 We were/are/maybe/kind of planning to drive to FL to stay with my dad & stepmom, butttt, FL be corona-cray, so we’re playing it by ear. BUT, in the case that we do make the 14-hour trek {14 hours, with twin toddlers, pray for us}, I could use ALL the traveling advice!! We know the must-haves: tablets, chargers, SNACKS on snacks on snacks, and a portable potty. What else ya got?!!
»
Also, we just got these backpacks for the kids, which I seriously contemplated stealing because they are SO cute and classic. I’ll do a full inside tour of them tomorrow » they have a pocket for tablets and drinks! Anddd the best part » they’re water resistant. So spill all the crud on them why-dontcha-kids, because I can wipe it right off 👌🏼 Pretty sure they’re having a huge sale right now, and they have diaper bags, lunchboxes, and so much more!! Plus, is a fan, and I’m pretty much do whatever she tells me. @ Annapolis, Maryland

Be good to your stylists y’all » ESP the ones doing this all day, every day because they got bills to pay Wearing a mask all day kills your oxygen levels and kicks your ass. My first time after a long day back to hair I felt like a bus had hit me and I was super light-headed because I was oxygen-deprived. Cleaning like a mad-person between each client is stressful as hell. And taking less clients but still spending all day doing hair feels endless.
Make no mistake » we are NOT nurses & docs » those are the real heroes and there is NO comparison. But unlike a lot of peeps right now, we can’t do your hair from home via Zoom 🤪 We do it because we LOVE it, and you, but just know that in a is TOUGH. Tip your stylist, follow their COVID-guidelines, and no matter how long you have to wait until your next appointment, dear GOD » please do not box dye.
Shoutout to my clients who have read my insanely long instructions to a T and been super duper supportive 🧡
{This was not meant to be a pat on my back » more to be a nod to all the stylists doing this full-time who I think of OFTEN when I’m doing my two-days-a-week and wonder, HOW do they do this every day? Here’s to you, babes 🥂 « I hope someone has that waiting for you when you get off.}
Here’s hoping the barrette & hair accessory trend never dies, because it’s the EASIEST way to make you feel like you actually did something with your hair 👌🏼 Which style is your fav??
Tips & tricks:
✨First I beachwaved with the S1.25, leaving about 3 inches of my ends out for a lived-in beachy boho look ✌🏼
✨Use a boar bristle teaser comb for more oomph!
✨All barrettes are from » they have the best {and cheapest} variety packs.
✨Don’t be afraid to mix and match styles of barrettes! I love tortoise with metal and pearl » it’s like a classic/edgy/sweet combo {peep style #6}.

It’s been 87 days since I’ve had a *real* client sitting in my chair. In the last 87 days seemingly everything has changed » we sold our house and moved; we entered into a pandemic; and the world went to bat for racial justice. But one thing has remained constant » balayage for dayzzzz 🤩😂

I am SO excited to dive back into this familiar place » mask and all!! Thank you to my Ma for letting me take over half her office and completely makeover her mudroom for my *for now* studio salon. Shoutout to the hubs for rigging up my shampoo nozzle {I said nozzle, not entire bowl » don’t get excited, y’all 😂} & forever supporting my side gig. And to my CLIENTS, my beautiful, kind-hearted, patient AF clients {most of y’all 😂} for standing by while I figured out how to do hair without breathing on you 🙏🏼
