Info to minimize the severity of symptoms and risk of chronic illness assoc w/ menopause thru fitness

I know I spend a lot of time talking about the basics. Because the basics work, regardless of what demographic you are in, the basics still work. Sure there can be various strategies that may be beneficial for specific populations in addition to the basics, but the basics are good for virtually ANY population: resistance train, be active, control calories, eat enough protein & fiber, get sleep, manage stress, & avoid alcohol/tobacco/drugs as much as possible. The basics work. That’s why I love this post by @teambiolayne coach @tinywarrior2020 because menopausal women get inundated with salesy information & ‘special’ protocols & do not hear about the basics enough. If you need help, comment ‘COACHING’ & I’ll DM you info on how to get expert help

Repost from @tinywarrior2020

Perimenopause nearly buried me. Literally. I feel I can’t fully share these stories yet -at least until my littles are older and can understand. But know, it’s a miracle that I’m still here to post this.

The worst part? I felt like I wasn’t allowed to struggle.

I work in health and fitness. I’m supposed to have the answers. I’m supposed to be in control. But when perimenopause hit, I wasn’t ready. My body changed seemingly overnight. My mind spiraled. The shame was crushing.

I was exhausted, anxious, and felt like I was losing myself. And because I “should have known better,” I suffered in silence. The mental health toll nearly broke me.

If I could go back and tell my 25-year-old self one thing, it would be this:

Stop starving yourself to fit into body trends that won’t serve you later. Prioritize strength over size. Nourish your body instead of shrinking it. Track your cycle, your mood, your energy—NOW. Learn about perimenopause before it blindsides you. Information is POWER.

I won’t let anyone else go through what I did. I will use my voice so no one suffers in silence. If you’re struggling, you’re not alone. And if you’re younger, please take this seriously.

💬 If you’ve been through this, what’s one thing you wish you had known sooner? 04/03/2025

1️⃣ Muscle is an investment for long-term health. Muscles serve as an amino acid reservoir. As protection from oxidative stress (lifestyle choices, etc) wanes with the decrease in estrogen, amino acids are released from muscles back into the blood stream so they can go to other organs in need of repair.

2️⃣ Chasing skinny or thin is catabolic — breaks down — muscle tissue. There’s no investments being made for protection later on. Even when losing weight, often becoming more metabolically INEFFICENT as body fat *percentage* rises and lean mass decreases. Leaving someone more susceptible to metabolic disease, injury, and reduced quality of life.

3️⃣ It’s not too late to start. Everyone needs muscle for physical tasks, immune function, glucose disposal, and more regardless of age…

But it will always be better to start sooner rather than later 💪
