I am independant, work hard toward success, I'm stubburn, but passion, perseverance & persistant. I take no for an answer & failure is not an option.

How to fade scars from a dermatologist and skin cancer surgeon.

I treat scars daily in my practice, and here’s how I recommend fading your scars based on your scar type:

1. Flat or slightly raised scars. Silicone sheets/tape are the best way to help flatten and fade these types of scars. Silicone sheets help to keep scars moist, may help reduce wound tension and promote healthy collagen production. Wear silicone sheets (like ScarAway) for 12 hours at night for the best results and always follow with sunscreen in the morning. You can also try silicone gels for areas where silicone sheets do not stick.

2. Hypertrophic scars. These scars are raised and firm. In addition to wearing silicone sheets at night, I recommend scar massage. Scar massage can be easily performed at home and is a very effective way to reduce scar thickness and improve symptoms like itch or pain. To perform scar massage, use a light moisturizer and massage the length of the scar for 1-2 minutes once or twice daily. For keloids, fractional ablative laser treatments, steroid injections & surgical excision may also be helpful.

3. Red or brown scars. For red scars, pulsed dye laser (PDL) with your dermatologist is an incredibly effective way to reduce blood vessels that cause the reddish or pink color. For brown scars, brightening serums containing kojic acid, tranexamic acid or vitamin C may help.

4. Atrophic (divoted) scars or stretch marks. This includes acne scars. Retinoids, which stimulate collagen production, are the best treatment option. Prescription tretinoin is the most effective but OTC retinoids like adapalene or retinol may help too.
