“Altar of Luna”

The partial lunar eclipse can be seen high in the sky over the swamp.

I departed for the lake a little before 9:00pm with the promise of calm waters and slightly hazy to clear skies. I knew the tree I wanted to capture beneath the moon. I had visited it over a decade before, and as long as it hadn’t been severely damaged by wind or lightning, I knew it would be the perfect shape. I chose to implement lights to stand it off from the eternal darkness beyond and add additional color to the scene.

The moon was high in the sky for this eclipse which made the composition a little difficult, as my camera was barely out of the water on the tripod and had to be pointed up to the heavens, which made seeing the viewfinder much harder than normal. What resulted however, was my first swamp lunar eclipse image. I hope you like it!
