No, this isn’t just for show. A good friend mine, and Bella Chic client, actually texted me this yesterday asking about hair tips for an upcoming trip.
She was pleased with the easy suggestions to help protect her hair and I thought you could benefit from it, too!
1) After getting your hair wet in the ocean, pool, lake, etc. make sure your first wash is with a clarifying shampoo. Scrub it and rinse thoroughly before washing and conditioning with your regulars. Don’t skip the conditioner either!
2) Before you even get in the water, saturate it with a good leave-in conditioner. It will fill the pores of your hair, so chlorine and salt water will not be absorbed. Not to mention add protection in the heat.
3) When possible, wear a hat. It will protect your color from fading as fast and provide shade for your eyes. And of course I put a Braves cap, because they’re my favorite team.
Bonus Tip: bring a large claw clip to the pool to put your hair up if you want to get in the water but keep your hair dry.

Before you blame your stylist, look at some at-home habits that may be the culprit:
•Over-washing : Yes, even every other day
•Cheap, grocery store shampoo stripping your toner
•Heat without a heat protector
•Hard water, that makes everything dull
Toners last usually 4-6 weeks, so it’s a great idea to make a “toner only” appointment between your regular haircuts.
You can also use toning shampoos to help as well, but don’t overuse or it’ll change the hue of your color.
