Functional / Insurance-Based Oculoplastics
Oculoplastics isn’t just cosmetic—it’s about restoring vision, comfort, and eye health. Dr. Gabe Scott treats medically necessary conditions including:
• Droopy eyelids (ptosis) that interfere with vision
• Heavy upper lids from excess skin (functional blepharoplasty)
• Brow ptosis causing visual field obstruction
• Eyelid malposition (entropion, ectropion)
• Tearing disorders and blocked tear ducts
• Eyelid tumors and reconstructive eyelid surgery
• Facial nerve–related eyelid and eye closure problems

These procedures are often covered by insurance when they impact vision or eye health.

Cosmetic Oculoplastics & Aesthetics
For patients seeking refinement and rejuvenation, Ascend Medicine offers advanced cosmetic procedures with a surgeon’s precision:
• Upper & lower blepharoplasty
• Brow lift surgery
• Surgical lip lifts
• CO₂ laser resurfacing for skin tightening and texture
• Aesthetic eyelid and facial rejuvenation

Testing new devices in the new office. Ascend Medicine is now seeing cosmetic patients for blepharoplasty, brow lifts, lip lifts, and many more procedures for facial rejuvenation.

For our insurance patients, we are still working on a new location but we are getting very very close. I am hoping to post an update next week in regards to our new space.

Eyelid cancer can be challenging because not only do we need pay attention to creating a visually pleasing result with minimal scar but we also need to make sure the eyelid continues to function normally.

By carefully rotating adjacent structures we can achieve great results with great cosmesis.

Sometimes simplicity is the best way. As an oculofacial surgeon, I often see both patients trying to achieve cosmetic results and patients who just want to see better. But let's be honest, everyone wants to have a beautiful result from their surgery.

I often discuss with my patients with severe brow ptosis that accomplishing a significant lift with a hidden scar technique (pretricheal or endoscopic) can be challenging. This is because the farther away from the brow muscle complex that you anchor the tissue, the harder it is to get sufficient lift and longevity becomes an issue.

I still offer these hidden scar techniques if a patient with severe brow ptosis desires it but when visual restoration is the main goal, I will discuss a direct approach with patients. I use a lateral approach to minimize the size of the scar and I create the incision within the brow hairs to eventually hide the scar within the hair.

This patient is only a few months out, it can take up to 1 year for the scar to fully resolve but she is ecstatic because she can see so much better now that her eyelid is no longer droopy. She is also very satisfied with the healing.

This is just another approach that can be used to get a very strong result but still behind minimal evidence of surgery being done.

People are always curious about the post operative healing period. The first week is always difficult, there is often bruising and swelling almost immediately after surgery and it tends to get worse between days 3 and 4. Everybody also heals differently so one person may have a very difficult first week and others may have a very easy recovery.

This patient had a great first week recovery. She looked amazing immediately after surgery was finished and continued to improve all week. She obviously still has some swelling and bruising, also the incisions are not fully healed but she is on a great start.

Its always a great feeling to see patients have a fast recovery.
