Have you ever wondered what makes soap produce a nice lather? 🧼✨
It has a lot to do with the types of oils used. All SW soaps are made with certified organic oils and butters. Olive oil and safflower oil are in all current soaps, while coconut oil, shea butter, and cocoa butter are featured in most soaps. These high quality oils/butters produce great suds without feeling slimy. For anyone with a nut allergy look for the soaps that do not contain coconut oil. This is another new “soap for everyone” consideration. The first batches of the new lineup are looking and smelling really great and I’m very excited to share!
Look out for soap preorders becoming available this week 👀

Hi! 🙋🏻♂️ This is me in 2015 with my Alpine dairy goats in Brasstown, NC. — 📜 I spent a lot of time as a kid “working cows” and jumping from old barns into hay-filled pickup trucks while helping my grandpa manage cows for farmers in central NC. Halfway through 5th grade my family moved into my grandfather’s house and because I was a boy I was put to work. My grandpa would be waiting for me everyday after school, and at 7am all summer to go fix fences or move cows, or perform any number of cow-related chores until the sun went down. My favorite was sitting on the backs of the young steers in the chute so they wouldn’t kick my grandpa in the face as he castrated them with his bare hands and a dirty razor blade. Ahh memories... As a young adult my education in farm life was mostly on how to turn a passion into a business. That did not come easy. After many trips back to the drawing board I took some time off to adapt my operation into a more sustainable one...Now I’m acquiring goat milk through Farm to Home Milk from Nature’s Sunrise Dairy in Hamptonville, NC.
# the 3rd pic for my favorite moment managing my animals. The time I walked in to milk the goats and found one of my mama goats accommodating one very confused hen with a roosting spot.

👀 It's coming...Silk Water Soap (formerly Skyline Dairy).
—>>So what’s new?! I’m focusing on soap! It is better than ever, made with organic oils only, and I’m now making vegan options. The idea is to make soap for everyone with the same dedication to formulating rejuvenating botanical blends. Over time I’ll be working more with herbalists and farmers to source plant material and herbs directly from the WNC region. 🍾
Be on the lookout for the new Silk Water website to go live! I'm offering an option to join a waitlist to be among the first to see the new soaps and to access preordering! Look for that!
It's 2018 aaaand the milk is still flowing !!! 🥛🥛🥛 In case you don't know, to maintain milk production it is critical to milk your animals EVERYDAY on schedule (twice a day most of the time). 😳 This means feeding your animals well, but also it means that when you are a one person crew like me, you get no days off...
Through the pouring rain, snow and ice, mud, frigid cold and brutal wind, you are milking. On the super busy days or just times when the last thing you want to do is milk an animal, you are milking...It's days like today, 60 degrees and sunny in January that it all feels worthwhile. If you're a fan of any SD moisturizing products you may have wondered if/when the goats will dry up. Well the answer is a solid: not yet!
You can still get SD creams and lotion at skylinedairy.com/shop
3 packs now available for moisturizing creams, pick your favorite 3 and save a few $$. If you'd like to try a (over 99% natural!) SD cream check out the 2 OZ sample/travel size at skylinedairy.com/shop ✌️Choose from 6 different essential oil-blended varieties ---

"Skyline Cooperative Dairies, Asheville's Famous Open Terrace Ice Cream Bar --- In the spring of 1946, Anthony Lord began designing a modern cooperative dairy...The plot is described as bordering a 'concrete highway',..Driving from downtown on Tunnel Road you will pass on your left The Cornerstone Restaurant (in the 1960’s it was a Shoney’s) and the exit/entrance to I240. This was the location of Skyline Cooperative Dairy at 110 Tunnel Road. Skyline Cooperative Dairy was a project of The Farmer’s Federation. According to an article in Farmer’s Federation News in May of 1948 the cooperative received milk from local farmers and pasteurized the milk in 16 seconds in stainless steel equipment. At that time milk was delivered in large cans from the farmers. An innovation in the new building was a mechanized can washer. It washed and sterilized a can, replacing the lid as soon as the milk was removed. The milk, the article rhapsodizes, 'is entirely enclosed in stainless steel pipes and tanks until it reaches the bottle.'
The dairy bar portion of building was 'constructed of structural glass with chrome trim' and seated about 80 people. Alas, there is no description of the interior décor. In my fevered imagination I picture chrome chairs and stools padded with shiny, red or perhaps green patterned vinyl. In addition, an 'open air terrace' seated an additional 80 customers." --- --- ---You may have heard of the inspiration behind Skyline Dairy, as I shared my original farm location in Brasstown, NC was named, Skyline Farm. Soon after I picked that name I found these images and information from the Pack Library NC Room website describing this amazing local dairy co-op! I loved the design and local history behind the name. Now that I have moved my operation to Asheville I wanted to share this bit of history that inspires me to keep pushing my Skyline Dairy efforts forward. And, who knows??? Maybe I'll work out a way to begin producing some ice cream of my own one day! --- I met an Asheville local at the summer The Big Crafty who wondered if I was connected to the original, Skyline ice cream bar; she remembered fondly enjoying ice cream there with her sister! 🍦🍦🍦

We were covered in snow last week and made the most if it🛷🛷!!! I enjoyed these views from the new SD location in Asheville and made good use of our new sledding hills with an improvised bus tub sled (worked well with a 4 year old😆)
We had a lot of fun but the winter weather was also a reminder of how important it can be to protect your skin from harsh weather outside and the dry air inside your home...
Our 40% milk / 40% well water / 5% shea butter therapeutic moisturizing creams, and the new SD hand & body balms (with pure essential oil blends) are great for managing skin in cold weather! Browse our available blends OR find just the right gift 🎁🎁🎁🎁for a friend or family member at: skylinedairy.com

Hi ! In case we haven't met irl, I'd like to introduce myself, the madman🤹🏼♂️ behind Skyline Dairy. My name is Chase; I'm 28 years old, originally from Charlotte, NC, and I'm a professional goat herder 😁😁😁
Also directing my ambitions towards being a farmer, chef, and maker of natural and truly nourishing goods.
•••
About 2 years ago my farmstead dreams came true when I got a small herd of dairy goats from Sunrise Farm in Columbus, NC. I had aspirations to build my herd to 16 goats. That didn't take long, and I quickly learned that a smaller herd would be better for me (for now), and that I could still produce loads of milk-based goods with my relatively small supply of milk.* I do everything I can for these goats and there have been times when I had to decide to buy goat feed instead of food for myself. With so many mouths to feed I was motivated to downsize and sell most of my herd to nice folks in Sandy Mush and Brasstown NC. Now I have just four of my fav does and you can likely find me walking around with them on a Friday evening or any other night. ❤️🐐❤️
------ ------- ------
**This year I mainly milked just 2 of my alpine does. During peak production (after 8 weeks of babies getting all the milk and at least 4 weeks of babies getting half of mama's daily milk) I got about 1.5 gallons a day total. That amount gradually decreases through the year but I got on average a gallon a day from May to September. One gallon of milk makes over 75 4oz units of my moisturizing cream, or about 160 bars of soap. You can imagine, the milk is not the ingredient in my formulas that I worry about having in short supply. 🥛🥛🥛🥛🥛🥛🥛🥛🥛🥛🥛🥛🥛🥛🥛🥛🥛🥛🥛🐐shop at skylinedairy.com
