With the second anniversary of losing my mom approaching, I wanted to find a meaningful way to honor her—something a little personal, and very unconventional.

On April 15th, I’ll be opening my schedule completely for free to as many people as possible who are also grieving the loss of their mom. Whether your loss was recent or decades ago, you are welcome here—whether you’ve been coming to me for years or have never been a client before.

The only request I have is that you share her with me—tell me about who she was, a favorite memory, or something you loved doing together. 🤍

*if you want to participate but aren’t comfortable with doing a full Brazilian I would be happy to modify and we can do brows or a basic bikini. This is supposed to be fun and stress free!

Waxing aftercare reminders!

I promised myself that this year I would give myself the same love and attention that I pour into my clients so I figured it would be a good time for a reintroduction!

My name is Catrina Lanning, your esthetician + face behind Studio Sphynx.

When I initially decided to become an esthetician I was studying psychology at UNC- Chapel Hill and I was loving school and getting straight A’s but something just didn’t feel right. Thankfully at that time I knew how to trust my gut and I made the switch from UNC-CH to the Aveda Institite and haven’t regretted it for a single moment.

This year will be my 10th year as a licensed esthetician as well as my 10th year married to my incredible wife Ryan.

I am a mom of two beautiful boys; Banks and Riot as well as our two hairless cats who are the inspiration behind Studio Sphynx.

I am a Pisces and have never really been the type of person to fit in a box. My music taste is all over the place, my interest are all over the place, my personal style is all over the place, I’m super indecisive and want to change things constantly but I wouldn’t want it any other way. I like what I like and I can’t help it. Also in true Pisces form I love HARD and with my whole heart.

Another fun fact about me is that my brothers and I were all adopted (from different families) but when I was a teenager I got to meet my bio family and I have two absolutely incredible bio sisters, a niece, cousins, aunts, uncles, and even my grandmother who I never expected to have a relationship with but I couldn’t not imagine life without them.

These past few years of balancing motherhood as well as being a business owner have been so challenging but also incredible all at the same time. It’s been such an emotional rollercoaster between Covid, Helene, being too busy, scaling back and then not being busy enough. Truly a whirlwind. This year I won’t allow the overwhelm to hold me back and my goal is to get my business to flourish like it used to and then keep pushing and I also plan to share as much as I can with you all here!

I am beyond excited to welcome some new faces into my studio!

Hi friends, a dear friend of mine has requested to come in for some shadowing/ training as she transitions her career from hairdresser to waxer! I thought this could be a great opportunity to open my books up to some new clients and offer a discounted price. Here are the stipulations:

1. I will initially be opening this up to individuals who haven’t been waxed before or at least haven’t been waxed in 6 months. (This is so she can experience what it’s like to see someone new and see the difference between those who get waxed regularly and those who don’t!)

2. Must be okay with someone else in the room observing. (I will be doing the wax though)

3. Price will be $30 instead of $65

4. Must be able to come in on a Saturday (hoping for the first one to potentially even be as soon as February 8th)

5. If you are a regular client and are also interested please send me a DM anyways because I would also like for her to experience what a day of regular clients looks like so that will be the next one!

After everything that happened with hurricane Helene and the way that it impacted and continues to impact our entire town and the reopening of my studio it felt like a logo update was much needed. So here is to new beginnings and a little reminder that life here in western North Carolina may never really be quite the same again but the future is beautiful and we will not only rebuild but we will BLOSSOM!
