Sometimes all it takes is one person asking about a product to send me right back to the formulation bench. 🌿

I had someone ask me today if I made a face wash. I told her I actually had one I’d been working on, but I just hadn’t gotten it quite where I wanted it yet.

Well… apparently that was the motivation I needed. 😂

So tonight I pulled the formula back out, made some changes, and went back to work.

And I think I finally got it.

Meet Clean Slate… my new gentle hybrid facial cleanser.

This isn’t your typical foaming face wash. In fact, it barely foams at all… and that’s exactly what I love about it.

When you massage it onto your face, it has this beautiful silky, almost oil-like slip that honestly made me wonder what the final rinse was going to feel like.

Then I added water…

It rinsed completely clean.

No oily film. No squeaky-clean feeling. No tightness. No dryness.

I stood there touching my face afterward because I couldn’t believe how incredibly soft and comfortable my skin felt. 😂

Clean, but not stripped.

And that is exactly what I want from a facial cleanser.

This is one of my favorite parts of what I do. I can have a formula sitting on my bench that isn’t quite there yet, and sometimes one conversation is all it takes to make me pull it back out and say, “Okay. Let’s figure this out.”

🌿 Sometimes the Batch Just Says… Nope.

A few days ago, in my “Meet the Maker” post, I mentioned that behind every beautiful bottle on my table are experiments, long nights…and occasionally a complete catastrophe.

Well, apparently I tempted fate. 😂

See those pictures?

That was supposed to be Hydra Veil…. my dual-weight hyaluronic acid creamy gel serum.

As you can see, it failed spectacularly.

TWICE. 🤦‍♀️

And this isn’t a brand-new formula I’ve never made before. That’s one of the maddening things about formulation. You can make a product successfully 50 times, or 100 times, and then one day a batch simply decides it is NOT going to cooperate.

So after the first failure, I cleaned and sanitized everything, went back through the process, adjusted what I thought had gone wrong, and started over.

And watched the second batch do essentially the same thing. 😳🥺

At that point, there may have been some words spoken in the Sage Willow kitchen that aren’t exactly consistent with “Rooted in Nature, Guided by Grace.” 😂

The painful part? When you’re working with premium botanical ingredients, specialty actives and other high-quality raw materials, two failed batches can mean several hundred dollars literally down the drain.

But here’s the part that matters:

If it isn’t right, I don’t sell it.

I won’t put something in a pretty bottle, stick a Sage Willow label on it and hope it’s “good enough.”

So I clean everything up… again. I go back through the formula and process, figure out exactly what happened, make adjustments, and start again.

Because handcrafted skincare isn’t just pouring beautiful ingredients into bottles. There’s chemistry, temperature, timing, technique, testing, troubleshooting… and occasionally staring into a beaker wondering what in the world you did to deserve this. 😂

These are the parts of being a maker you don’t usually see on the finished product table.

But they’re every bit as much a part of Sage Willow Designs as the beautiful bottles that eventually make it there. 🌿

💋 Meet Plush Pout… the newest little creation from Sage Willow Designs!

I’ve been having way too much fun in the formulation studio lately.

While I’m anxiously awaiting the last couple of ingredients for Pout Potion, an upcoming botanical lip treatment formulated for a natural plumping effect, I decided our everyday lip balm deserved an upgrade of its own.

And Plush Pout was born. 🌿💋

I wanted something that didn’t just coat your lips in wax. I wanted a balm that felt silky, buttery and cushiony, melted beautifully onto the lips, and left them feeling deeply conditioned, soft and smooth… without that heavy, sticky feeling.

Yesterday I made the very first test batch (just 16 balms) and I’m kind of obsessed. 😍

Plush Pout gives lips that soft, healthy, plush-looking finish while delivering the kind of conditioning you’ll want to keep reaching for all day.

And apparently I’m not the only one excited about it. One of my testers, who already told me she wears lip balm all day, is rather impatiently waiting for hers. 🥰

🌿 A little introduction to the woman behind Sage Willow Designs...

I’m Kimber... founder and formulator behind Sage Willow Designs.

For a long time, creating beautiful, natural things has been a part of who I am. Over time, that grew into something I’m incredibly passionate about: thoughtfully formulated skincare, body care and home products made with ingredients I genuinely feel good about using.

I’m a bit of an ingredient nerd. 🌿 I love the research, the formulation, the experimenting and the why behind every ingredient I choose. “Natural” alone isn’t enough for me... I want my products to actually perform, feel beautiful to use, and be something I’m proud to put into someone else’s hands.

Everything is still created in small batches by me, but I’ve never wanted Sage Willow to feel like ordinary homemade skincare. From the formulas to the scents to the packaging, I want it to feel intentional, elevated and special.

You’ll probably see more than skincare here, too. There’s a whole life behind Sage Willow... gardening, animals, homesteading, markets, formulation days, probably a few experiments that don’t go according to plan 😂, and all the little moments in between.

More than anything, this business has become a reflection of things that matter deeply to me: faith, resilience, creativity, starting again when life changes, and building something meaningful from the life you’ve been given.

Sometimes the best products start with one simple comment…

Golden Aura actually exists because of a customer. ❤️

She smelled Velvet Smoke in one of my other products and told me she loved it so much she wanted to “slather it all over her body.”

I laughed and told her, “I can make that happen.” 😂

And I did.

That little conversation is how Golden Aura Luxury Dry Body Oil was born, and Velvet Smoke went on to become the #1 bestselling scent.

But of course, I couldn’t just put fragrance into a bottle of oil and call it good. 😂

I wanted to create something that actually did something wonderful for your skin, too. Something luxurious and deeply nourishing, but lightweight enough to absorb beautifully without leaving you feeling greasy.

And today I’m in the workroom mixing up another fresh batch.

It still makes me smile that one customer saying, “I want to slather this all over my body,” turned into an entire Sage Willow product. 😂❤️

But honestly, that’s one of my favorite things about what I do. Someone tells me what they wish they could find, and my brain immediately starts thinking…

I bet I can make that. 🌿
