A virus carried by rodents has been linked to temporary p*nile shrinkage in some patients, with doctors reporting rare cases where men experienced noticeable size loss after severe infection.
The illness is caused by hantavirus, a disease spread mainly through contact with infected rodent droppings, urine, or saliva. Researchers in Europe studying Puumala hantavirus, a strain found in parts of Scandinavia, documented cases where men reported erectile dysfunction and reduced pe**le length during recovery. Scientists believe the effect may be tied to blood vessel damage, inflammation, and hormonal disruption caused by the infection rather than permanent tissue loss itself. One widely discussed study published in the 2020s drew attention online after patients described changes of up to several centimeters. Experts stress that these cases appear uncommon and most symptoms improve over time, but the reports added another disturbing layer to a virus already known for causing serious kidney and lung complications.
It is the kind of medical fact that makes avoiding mice feel a lot more urgent.
