She was already a patient of mine. She came routinely for her regular healthy cleanings and check-ups. One day at her check-up she told me she hated her crown and the gap between her front teeth. After a quick consultation, I found out that she had no other concerns about her smile…not the color, shape or length of the rest of her teeth.
The rest of her teeth are healthy and aligned, and she didn’t request a full smile makeover. She had very specific concerns. If I sell her on a whole smile, it will be a turnoff.
She requested that I only replace the crown, however if I replace only the discolored crown AND close the gap, then that front tooth will be too wide. Even if the color matches, the width disproportionality could make her smile look worse.
Solution? Replace crown, shape gums over the 2 front teeth so that the top of the teeth are symmetrical, and add a no-prep veneer to the other front tooth to meet in the middle of the gap and close it while making the two teeth symmetrical.
Result? Very happy patient.😎

Happy Birthday, Mom! You've been in Heaven for 3 years now, and I miss you more every day. Can you believe both Sammie and Oscar are now away at college?? Where does the time go? I know you're here with me...with us...I hear you in the mourning dove's song, and at the chance glimpse of a bald eagle. I'm in gratitude every day for the effort and strength you brought to raising Rusty and me. God knows we weren't "easy." But you gave it your absolute "all." And I try to mimic you in so many ways. I miss you every day, and I'm happy knowing you're dancing in Heaven and making Heaven even lovelier every day. We all love you so much, Nama. Happy Birthday 💓

The bacteria in your mouth can travel much further than you'd think...all the way to a developing pregnancy. 🌿

I want to share something that too few women are told: the health of your mouth and the health of a pregnancy are tightly connected.

There's a common oral bacterium called Fusobacterium nucleatum (Fn). It lives in many mouths without issue. But when the oral environment becomes imbalanced, through gum disease or inflammation, this bacterium can begin to behave as a pathogen and can enter the bloodstream through inflamed gum tissue and travel to places it was never meant to reach.

Researchers have shown that F. nucleatum can cross into the placenta using a specific adhesion protein (called FadA) that loosens the barriers between blood-vessel cells...allowing it to reach the fetal-placental unit. Once there, it's been associated with serious complications: preterm birth, stillbirth, and infection of the amniotic environment.

And emerging research is now exploring this same bacterium's possible role in fertility and conditions like endometriosis and PCOS. That science is rapidly developing.

I'm not sharing this to frighten you. I want to empower you:

Your oral health is not separate from your reproductive health. Caring for your gums before and during pregnancy is one of the most overlooked things a woman can do for herself and her baby.

If you're planning a pregnancy, trying to conceive, or already expecting, a healthy mouth belongs on your checklist, right alongside your prenatal vitamins. 🤍

This is the complete health dentistry conversation I have with my patients every day.

The real test wasn't the mirror in my office. It was his mother's kitchen table. ✨
This patient, a successful professional, came to me wanting to brighten and improve his smile. Simple enough. But there was one thing he wasn't sure about: the gap between his front teeth.
He'd had it his whole life. It was his. A signature. He wasn't sure he wanted to let it go.
So we didn't rush the decision. When I placed his provisional veneers, I closed the gap, temporarily, and let him live with it. A test drive. A full week to see himself, laugh, eat, work, and decide.
After that week, I offered to open it back up.
He said no. He'd fallen in love with his smile.
From there, the plan was minimally invasive by design: professional whitening first, then just four minimal-prep veneers to refine his proportions, close the gap, and match his newly brightened smile. Nothing over-done. Nothing that didn't need doing.
But here's my favorite part. 🤍
He told me the true test would come when he flew home to visit his mom: the person who'd known his smile longer than anyone.
He came back laughing. She hadn't noticed. Not on day one, not on day two. It wasn't until their last morning together that she paused and realized something was different; and she smiled approvingly when she realized he closed his gap.
That is the whole goal. Not "what did you do?"...just you, looking like the most confident version of yourself.
We called that a success. And so did he. 😊

"I thought my previous dentist was the best, until I found...Dr. Estep"
➡️ B.R., cosmetic and general dentistry patient

I've been doing this for over 20 years, and I'm still humbled and joyful when I read messages like this one.

Not only do I want to take care of the "whole" person using integrative dentistry, I also want every patient to feel they've been treated at the highest level and with five-star customer service. This is why my team uses sophisticated technology, treatments, and therapies. And it's why we constantly continue our education.

I'm a nerd. That used to be an insult, and now it's the highest compliment. I want my patients to know that I constantly study and research because I want to be able to deliver the BEST for them. What was the best five years ago is not even close to the best today.

The best dentistry today plays an integral role in your complete health. The best dentistry today could increase your lifespan AND your health-span. The best dentistry today could save a life.

That is what I get to do for people. And I do not take it lightly.

Your mouth and your gut are in constant conversation. 🌿

Your oral cavity holds more than 700 species of bacteria...the second most diverse microbial community in your entire body...right behind your gut. And these two ecosystems are deeply connected.

A 2023 review in the Journal of Translational Medicine explored exactly how. When the balance of bacteria in your mouth is healthy, it supports your whole system. But when that balance is disrupted (through gum disease, poor oral health, or chronic inflammation) those bacteria don't stay put. They can travel through your body and contribute to inflammation far beyond your mouth.

And the connection runs both directions. What happens in your gut can show up in your mouth, and what happens in your mouth can shape your gut.

This is the heart of why I practice integrative dentistry. When I care for your oral health, I'm not just protecting your teeth and gums. I'm supporting one of the foundational systems of your whole-body wellness.

A healthy mouth is so much more than a beautiful smile. It's a starting point for feeling well, everywhere. 🤍

Beauty that begins from within...I mean that literally.

When a teenager comes to me with chipped or worn front teeth, the first thing I do is...slow down. ✨

Parents come to me wanting a quick fix...and I get it...I have teens, too! Your teen is self-conscious and they feel it every time they smile. And these days...for teens...with all of the social media pressure...sigh.

But I have to explain: the chipping is often the symptom and not the problem. The wear on the teeth happened slowly...over time.

The chipping happened because the bite is not aligned. The front teeth meet each other with a force they weren’t designed to handle. If I bond over the damage and don’t correct the root cause, the bonding will break right off. And your teen will now have an immediate esthetic emergency...and will be in a “teen panic!!”...and now parents come to me in a “parent panic!!” ...bigger sigh. I don’t intentionally sign up for that...ever.

As usual for my patients...the minimally invasive path is the one that fixes the root cause...and the one that lasts.

→ Align the teeth to a healthy bite first with clear aligners
→ Then restore the worn edges with cosmetic bonding without grinding away healthy enamel
→ The result holds because the underlying cause is solved

The least invasive path to the most beautiful result is always the right path. Sound familiar?

But what if there’s a big moment on the calendar that can’t wait: a competition, a performance, senior photos? We can use beautiful temporary options that can give the teen a great smile for that event, then start the lasting treatment.

Does your teen have a smile concern? Let’s find out what’s going on beneath the surface, and discover the gentlest treatment that will deliver a beautiful and lasting result.

The word "Botox" has been misunderstood for 20 years. Let me clear it up. ✨

Many people picture a frozen face. An expressionless look. "Obvious work."
This happens when an injector places too much product. They use the same dose and template for every client instead of thoughtfully mapping each muscle. Every face is different...every map is different.

Done well, Botox doesn't freeze your face. It softens it. It relaxes the muscles that have been over-working for decades...the ones that create the lines between your brows, across your forehead, around your eyes.

The result isn't "I had something done."
It's "you look so rested."

As a cosmetic dentist with deep expertise in facial anatomy, I approach every Botox treatment the way I approach every smile transformation: with the minimum amount necessary to achieve the most natural result.

Because you should still look like you. Just the most rested, refreshed version of you.

Restore. Recharge. 🌅

I talk a lot about inflammation, sleep, and stress — because they show up in your mouth, your skin, and your whole body.
But here's what I don't say often enough:
Sometimes the most powerful thing you can do for your health isn't a supplement or a protocol.
It's a quiet morning. A horizon. A moment where nothing is asked of you.
Your nervous system heals in stillness. Your cortisol drops. Your body remembers how to rest.
Give yourself this. 🤍
