What does honoring women look like to you?

Before luxury body butters filled store shelves, African women were already mastering skin nourishment. 🤎

For centuries in West Africa, women have led the harvesting, production, and processing of shea butter — extracting it from the nuts of the shea tree using techniques passed down through generations.

Shea butter is often called “Women’s Gold.”

Not just because of its richness for the skin — but because it has historically provided income, stability, and economic independence for women and their communities. Entire cooperatives and villages have been sustained through this craft.

Shea butter has been used to:
🤎 Protect skin from harsh climates
🤎 Deeply seal in moisture
🤎 Support healing for dry or irritated skin
🤎 Care for mothers and babies

This is ancestral skincare.
Rooted in knowledge.
Powered by women.

Black self-care has always been deeper than aesthetics. It has always been innovation, ownership, and legacy.

This Black History Month, remember — the ingredients we use today carry centuries of wisdom.

Happy Black History Month 🕊️

Before “self-care” was trending… Black women were building empires from it. ✨

In the early 1900s, Madam C.J. Walker created hair and scalp care products specifically for Black women — becoming one of the first female self-made millionaires in America.

But her impact went far beyond products.

She built a nationwide network of trained sales agents — known as “Walker Agents” — and educated over 20,000 Black women in haircare, hygiene, entrepreneurship, and financial literacy. At a time when many Black women were limited to domestic work, she created pathways to ownership, income, and independence.

She opened beauty schools, developed manufacturing facilities, and encouraged her agents to invest in their communities, donate to social causes, and advocate for civil rights.

Self-care became:
🤎 Scalp health
🤎 Hygiene education
🤎 Economic independence
🤎 Community investment
🤎 Confidence + dignity

The ripple effect of her work still lives on today.

Because of pioneers like her, Black women continue to:
• Own beauty brands
• Build generational wealth
• Create safe spaces through salons & self-care
• Redefine luxury on our own terms

Black self-care has never been shallow.
It has always been strategy.
It has always been resistance.
It has always been legacy.

This Black History Month, be intentional about how you care for yourself.
