genuine growth doesn’t happen overnight, and this transformation on is a perfect example of that.

She first came to me as a red hair color/extensions correction, and over time she realized she was ready to no longer hide behind her, as she put it, “fun color security blanket.” She was ready to display her newfound confidence with hair that better represented the person she was becoming.

Hair may be “just hair” to some, but to others it can be a reflection of someone’s journey through life.

I can’t help but be proud of myself for this creation. This was my first time doing a hairstyle like this. I used a bottom half of a liter bottle and a fishnet wig cap to create the base, then lots of hairspray, bobby-pins, and patience to secure my hair around it. I had also ordered clip-in extensions for the white panels, but they wouldn’t arrive in time, so I used my Mehron clown white face paint and a wet paint brush for the streaks.

The makeup surprisingly took me longer than the hair. 😅 I spent a total of 2.5 hours on hair and makeup (way longer than what I’m used to on a daily basis 😂).

The dress was a backup that I already owned after the dress I ordered wouldn’t arrive in time (and I think it honestly worked out better). I layered the dress with creepy cloth to create the bride’s “cape.” The wraps are a mix of medical self-adhering fabric for easy application and silk gauze for texture and flowiness.

The photos were also taken by me. It only took a tripod, a Bluetooth camera shutter that connects to my phone, and a beautiful Halloween day with the perfect amount of wind — a true Samhain blessing.

I have been enamored by the beauty of Elsa Lanchester’s Bride of Frankenstein for as long as I can remember, especially after discovering color photos of her (she was a redhead! 😍) Along with my obsession with Lisa Frankenstein, being floored by ’s Bride costume in Your Monster, and ’s Frankenstein living in my head rent free lately, I knew there was no other option for this year’s Halloween costume. This might be my most favorite yet.

I’m super proud of these. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did creating them. 🥹

Lastly, don’t settle for Al just because it’s “easy” or “trendy.” Creating art is cool and fun, and we have to keep it alive for the sake of our minds and our planet.
