There are a few strong reasons why I prefer working in a salon environment:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

1. The comaraderie. For me, there is nothing like having good, friendly and talented people around. It makes my “work” feel like I’m just hanging out with friends all day! We hype each other throughout the day…can’t beat that! Also, it is so important for me to be around people that I can learn from and be inspired by! For example… I wanted to improve my photo taking skills and for sure came through! Thanks love 🤎🙏🏾 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

2. The social environment. I absolutely love the days in the salon where it’s quiet and chill, but I also really appreciate the end of the week where there are more stylists working and therefore more chairs filled with client friends! 🤗 This day in particular, at some point, we were all talking about the Braves World Series parade…and then talking about Kendall Jenners wigs lol. It was so fun. I love salon talk. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

3. The intangibles. There are so many small things that for me as an independent contractor, I appreciate because it makes my job sooo much easier and smoother. Not having to worry about overhead & having help with scheduling clients is just a complete blessing. These are only a couple of things, but there’s so much more. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

All in all, I’m feeling so grateful and blessed in my work life. 🤎🙏🏾 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I can’t believe I’m about to say this butttt…it’s holiday season! 😅😬 I have no idea how we got here already, considering the fact that I very much feel like it should still be summertime. I don’t care that it’s getting chillier outside and leaves are falling! I’m not ready for winter! 😭😂 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Anywayssss, it’s clear that everyone has pretty much realized that the year is approaching it’s end and we’ve got some pretty big dates coming up. So, my November books are pretty much booked, with only a few appointment spots left! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

December is also booking up very quickly, so now is the time to start making plans y’all! 🙈 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Fall hair doesn’t have to be boring! I know we often find ourselves wanting to go darker or warmer during the cooler months, but let’s not forget to keep it fun! 💃🏾⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

For my lovely client, we wanted to bring up and freshen up her blonde balayage, while keeping it looking natural and dimensional. We also wanted to avoid it getting too blonde on the ends, which naturally will just happened after consistent balayage appointments. By adding lowlights to blend with her natural root, it breaks up the blonde and creates a beautiful highlighted brunette look! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

This is my little trick for those who want to have blonde but still “look like a brunette”! 🍂🍁

My trip to Germany was one of the best trips I’ve ever taken. Most other trips to Europe that I have gone on have been group trips with a guide or I was traveling with a serious budget. Which is great and definitely has it perks, but there’s something about just roaming around a city without any real plans, that just feels, FREEING. 🙌🏾

This time, I was determined to go oversees and just enjoy myself to the fullest and leave all my worries behind. Let me tell you, it really wasn’t hard for me to do at all lol. I hardly thought about home 😂🤷🏾‍♀️ It was perfect!

Now that I’m back, I keep reminiscing on my week abroad and I’m already planning more trips for next year.

Week ONE in this new beautiful space was a huge success! I’m so grateful to my clients who showed up and showed out this past week and helped make my transition to so smooth. I’m also so appreciative of my new team that put in so much time helping transition my books while I was away on vacation! The last year had been full of so many crazy adventures! Even with covid, we’ve found a lot of opportunities to travel and have fun…everything is just so much easier & BETTER with you 🤎

We’ve also had our challenges this year…trying to get pregnant over the last year has definitely thrown some unexpected curveballs butttt like I said, we always do things the “hard” way don’t we? 😂 When the time comes to expand our family, I know we’ll look back at all the exams, procedures, and the stupid hard days we’ve endured and feel that it was all worth it!

I loveeeeeeeee my natural hair...my LOCS. My MICROLOCS 🥰 It’s honestly been such a long time since I could say that. As a hairstylist myself, watching my hair fall out and thin over the years, was so depressing 😭 I hated my hair. And as much as I tried to speak love into my hair, deep down, my hair was definitely a point of contention. I needed to change that. And I did! This journey has been a long time coming and I’m seriously loving EVERY freaking stage my hair is going through!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

[For those of you who don’t know, growing mature locs is definitely a long and dedicated process. There are a lot of stages your hair has to go through in order to be fully loc’d. Based on my hair density and curl pattern, it’ll probably be a good 2 years before I reach that final stage…but I’m okay with that!]⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I’ve literally loved my hair at every single stage (frizz and all) and I haven’t missed my loose hair not once! Right now, I’m only 3.5 months in, but I can already see my hair going through soooo many changes. Anddd, I’m getting lots of budding! Yay! 🙌🏾 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

The freedom and the ease of having locs has seriously been everything. I only wash it once a week, spray rose water daily and my hairstylist’s oil - that I’m obsessed with - every other day. I FEEL LIBERATED! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

What is a reality TV show you’re obsessed with?

I really thought that I’d be spending this entire summer in the water, whether it be a pool, lake, river, ocean…I didn’t care! But like, the way this rain is set up…it’s definitely ruined that summer plan 😩 …(except for that time when I jumped off the boat and into the lake in Detroit with my clothes on 🤷🏾‍♀️😂 that was fun!)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

But I have noticed so many people traveling to pool, lake and beach worthy places this summer! So I figured I’d share a couple of tips for how you can protect your hair, while still enjoying your water time 🤗.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1. I highly recommend wetting your hair first with non-chlorinic water (use bottled water if you have to) and then use the cheapest conditioner you can buy to coat your hair in before you get in the water - I recommend something like a basic herbal essence conditioner, because come on, who wants to waste the good stuff! - This is going to create a protective layer on your hair, so that other chemicals and bacteria cannot pe*****te your hair as much.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
2. Wear a hat (you can make it a cute one!) as much as possible when out in the sun on vacation. This is primarily for my color treated men and women who want to preserve their color! Let’s face it, coloring is expensive and no one wants their color getting supper brassy by the sun or “heat damage” from UV rays! The sun really can wreck havoc on our hair 😭 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And if you can’t find a hat, a lot of styling products these days have UV protection, give those a spray before going out!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
