THESE ARE SOME OF THE HAIRSTYLES THAT HELPED GROW MY DAUGHTER’S HAIR TO 16 INCHES 👀🤎👇
People always ask me what products I use, but the truth is that protective styling has played a huge role in my daughter’s healthy hair journey.
These simple, low-manipulation hairstyles helped us protect her ends, reduce daily breakage, retain moisture, and stay consistent with her hair care routine. The goal was never to find a magic hairstyle. The goal was to create an environment where her hair could thrive.
Hair growth happens at the roots, but length retention happens in the routine. That’s why we’ve focused on protective styles, gentle handling, moisture, and patience over the years.
Which hairstyle do you think has been the most effective for retaining length? Let me know in the comments! 👇🤎
Not going to lie… the temptation is REAL. 😩
You start missing your wash days, your twist outs, your curls, and the feeling of wearing your hair out. Then the little frizz starts showing up and suddenly taking down your mini braids sounds like the best idea ever. 😂
But then I remember why I started this challenge in the first place—to practice patience, reduce manipulation, and give my hair the consistency it deserves.
Healthy hair growth isn’t always exciting. Sometimes it’s choosing discipline over instant gratification and trusting the process even when you’re ready to quit.
So for now… the mini braids are staying. 😂🤎
Be honest… have you ever taken down a protective style way earlier than planned? 👀 Drop a 😂 if you can relate!
Me when people say I look homeless in my mini braids

One thing I've learned on my mini braids hair growth journey is that protective styles still need moisture. Just because your hair is tucked away doesn't mean it stops needing care.
Today's self-care session was all about steaming my mini braids. The warm steam helps my hair absorb moisture better, softens dry strands, and keeps my braids feeling refreshed without adding extra manipulation.
Healthy hair growth isn't just about installing a protective style and forgetting about it. It's about consistently caring for the hair underneath. Small habits like this can make a big difference over time.
Do you steam your hair while it's in protective styles? Let me know YES or NO below! 👇🤎

THAT’S SO MUCH BREAKAGE!” 😳 …Or is it? 👀
This is my daughter’s hair after taking down a protective style that was in for 2 months, and believe it or not, this amount of shed hair is completely normal.
When hair is tucked away in braids, twists, or threading, the strands that would normally shed daily have nowhere to go. So when you finally take the style down, weeks of natural shedding show up all at once.
Not every ball of hair you see after a takedown is breakage. Sometimes it’s simply shed hair that has been trapped in the style the entire time.
This is why understanding the difference between shedding and breakage is so important on a healthy hair journey. Knowledge saves a lot of unnecessary panic. 🤎

Every time I put my daughter's hair in African threading, I'm reminded that our hair has always been capable of growing and thriving. The problem was never our hair—it was the myths we were told about it.
African threading has been used for generations to help stretch the hair, reduce daily manipulation, and protect those precious ends. Watching her hair flourish is proof that with patience, consistency, moisture, and protective styling, African hair can absolutely thrive.
Healthy hair growth isn't about luck. It's about caring for the hair you already have and giving it the chance to reach its full potential. 🤎✨
