One of the best dreams I’ve ever had in my life I was a field of California Poppy. Not just one plant but the whole entire field. It’s a hard feeling to describe but it reminded me of the collective human experience. Not just one person (flower) but the whole of humanity (field). Have you ever had an off day for no apparent reason and thought maybe you were just picking up on all the crap in the world? Picking up on the collective funk? It seems inevitable.

Thankfully there is a lot we can do to protect our energy and and our nervous systems. I love that this dream of California Poppy got me thinking of the collective because it’s so good for the anxiety that I feel like travels through air these days. When you get hit by a wave of collective funk the poppies are here for you. The anecdote to funky waves🧡

300,000 years. That’s how long it’s estimated our species has been on this planet in our current homo sapiens arrangement. And for almost all of that time, we lived in close relationship with the earth: her plants, critters, seasons, weather, and cycles.

We learned what nourished us, what healed us, what could harm us, what could be woven, brewed, eaten, planted, and foraged. That deep knowing of the natural world was not some frivolous hobby or alternative belief system. It is the reason we are here today.

And yet somewhere along the way, we began to tell a different story and treat nature as something “out there,” something separate from us, something optional. It is worth questioning the modern assumption that this ancient way of knowing is irrelevant to our lives today. It is worth questioning the idea that plant medicine is somehow lesser when it comes to the everyday challenges of being human: stress, grief, inflammation, poor sleep, digestion, nervous system depletion, seasonal allergies, hormonal shifts, and all the ways our bodies require care. Plants have been our singular, powerful medicine cabinet to meet these challenges for the better part of a quarter million years. Herbal medicine is not alternative medicine. It is the original medicine.

Plants have been tending to life for a very, very long time. Our long survival as a species is not evidence of our separation from nature, but of the power of living in alignment with it.

Each of us can begin walking this path again, in small and meaningful ways. Plant a garden. Take a hike. Say hello to a bug. Notice what’s blooming. Learn the name of a plant. Teach your children to be in relationship with the earth. Take a tincture! Challenge what we’ve been taught to accept as normal.

We are only here today because, for most of our history, we understood that there is no real separation between us and nature. Maybe one by one, we can start to remember that.

Mimosa Bark Harvest✨ The flowers get all the glory but its the combination of the 2 that is so powerfully uplifting. Mimosa flower medicine without the bark gives a slightly manic feeling that burns out quickly, leaving you a little hung over. Adding bark medicine balances the high with a beautiful grounding energy. We’ve found that even a 1:1 is a little too ungrounded. More bark than flower, more earth than air is where it’s at. Mimosa medicine is incredibly time consuming, but the end result feels like liquid sunshine, illuminating all that is beautiful in this world. ✨

This is where it all started for me✨ 20 years ago I spent 2 years as an intern at Full Sun Farm in Big Sandy Mush, outside of Asheville. I hold this place and these people so close to my heart. Alex and Vanessa made such a massive influence on my life and I truly wouldn’t be where I am today if it weren’t for them. I hadn’t been back to Sandy Mush in 12 years. Seeing the farm and my friends again was such a gift and it illuminated the sweetness of my journey to where I am now. I love you Thank you, for everything💚💚

The last couple of days have been non stop plant deliveries🌱 This morning I went to The Wylde Center in Decatur and there was literally not even room for my coffee. Thankfully a little ways down the road I found that my mug fit perfectly snug in an empty space in a plant flat. Atlanteans can now find a whole pile of our plants at the Wylde Center, which just happens to be one of the sweetest little nurseries around.

While the mimosa trees aren’t quite blooming yet, the fields are green, the bees buzzing, calendars filling, nervous systems… also buzzing. It’s beautiful, but this springtime tidal wave of activity but it can overwhelming. Spring wakes everything up at once!

If you’re feeling heavy under all of that energetic abundance or left behind as the world turns to busyness, look to the masters of stepping into spring. Mimosa, the mighty tree of happiness, brings a lightness that helps lift heaviness when things feel dull or stuck. Paired with hawthorn for the emotional and physical heart, and lemon balm for the spinning mind, these three are a team that work in tandem to bring us up from below, help us catch a breath of the fresh air we know is around us. Spirit Lift is a powerful made from freshly tinctured plants, for the full force of these uplifting herbs. It’s a blend perfectly suited to help you bask in spring’s blessings.

And don’t forget the simple medicine.
Touch a tree. Look a the way the color of a flower petal changes from center to tip. Lay in the grass for five minutes. It matters. You don’t have to keep up with spring. You’re allowed to move slow and enjoy it ;))
