A GM once told me something I’ll never forget.
He said, “Every Monday morning, I read every single guest review before I look at yesterday’s revenue.”
I asked him why.
He smiled and said, “Revenue tells me how we performed. Reviews tell me how we made people feel.”
He was right.
Guests rarely remember occupancy percentages or RevPAR. They remember the front desk agent who remembered their name. The housekeeper who found a lost stuffed animal. The server who noticed a birthday before anyone said a word.
And every once in a while, a one-star review isn’t really about the room.
It’s about a moment when someone felt unheard.
Monday is a fresh set of blank reviews waiting to be written.
The question isn’t whether your hotel will be talked about this week.
It’s what story your guests will tell.

Somewhere in northern Spain right now, a front desk agent is explaining to a guest that yes, the room is $400 a night, and yes, that's for four minutes of darkness.
Bookings along the eclipse path are up as much as 76% year over year ahead of August 12, with ADRs climbing as much as 85%. Somebody in revenue management is having the best month of their career. Hospitality Net
But here's what I keep thinking about: the person who has to deliver that $400 room. The housekeeper turning 40 checkouts in a property that normally runs half full. The GM who staffed for a sleepy August and is now looking at a sold-out week with a skeleton crew.
The forecast is the easy part. Rate is a spreadsheet. Coverage is a phone call at 6am to someone who already worked six days.
Every demand spike in this industry eventually lands on the same set of shoulders. The properties that come out of it well aren't the ones who priced it best. They're the ones who saw it coming and made sure somebody was there.
Four minutes of shadow. Weeks of planning. That's hospitality.

I was thinking about every housekeeping leader this weekend.
Around 10:30 a.m., the radio starts.
“Can we get that room first?”
“Guest’s in the lobby.”
“VIP arrival just moved up.”
“Can we squeeze in an early check-in?”
None of those requests are unreasonable.
The problem is they all arrive at the exact same time.
The best housekeeping leaders I’ve worked with don’t panic. They don’t promise what they can’t deliver, either.
They stop.
They reprioritize.
They communicate.
Because guests can be surprisingly patient when they know what’s happening.
What frustrates people isn’t always the wait.
It’s the silence.
I’ve seen teams turn a difficult arrival day into a great guest experience with nothing more than honest communication and realistic expectations.
Sometimes the fastest way to solve a problem isn’t cleaning the next room.
It’s picking up the radio and making sure everyone is solving the same problem.

Women We Admire named me one of the Top Women Chief Development Officers of 2026 — and I don’t take a repeat on this list for granted.
Recognition that comes around more than once tends to say less about a single moment and more about the work behind it. For me, that work has never really been about titles or lists. It’s the shift that got covered, the property that stayed open, the team that showed up when it mattered — the quiet, unglamorous parts of development that actually move a business forward.
Everything I’ve built at The Carver Companies, I built standing next to people who do that work every day. So, like last time, this one goes to them.
Thank you for making the mission easy to believe in.

Monday mornings have a funny way of revealing everything.
Before the first sip of coffee, we’re all just trying to remember what day it is.
After the first sip? We remember why we love what we do.
Here’s to strong coffee, stronger teams, and another week of taking care of people.
☕ Happy Monday.

Before this week got away from me, I found myself doing something I’m probably too good at.
I was keeping score.
One thing didn’t go as planned. A conversation didn’t land the way I’d hoped. My to-do list kept growing faster than I could shrink it. Before long, all I could see was everything that wasn’t going right.
Someone close to me finally stopped me and asked, “But what is going right?”
That question changed my whole perspective.
I started looking around instead of looking at my checklist.
I have a team I genuinely love working with. Clients who trust us. People whose lives are changing because they found an opportunity through us. A family that loves me. A God who has been faithful through every season.
None of those things had disappeared.
I had just stopped noticing them.
Sometimes leadership isn’t about solving another problem. Sometimes it’s about refusing to let one difficult moment overshadow a hundred good ones.
There’s nothing quite like watching Atlanta come alive on the Fourth of July.
Grateful for this view and for a tradition that brings so many people together year after year. Wishing everyone a safe and happy Independence Day!

Tomorrow we'll celebrate America's 250th birthday with fireworks, flags, and family traditions.
Today, I'm thinking about the people who make those celebrations possible.
The front desk agent checking in a family before the parade.
The housekeeper making sure a room feels like home.
The cook firing up breakfast before sunrise.
The server missing their own backyard barbecue so someone else's family can enjoy theirs.
The engineer making sure the AC keeps running through another hot July day.
Hospitality has always been about service. And service has always been one of America's greatest strengths.
If you're working this holiday weekend, thank you. Your work creates memories for people you'll probably never meet again, but they'll remember how you made them feel.
Wherever this Fourth of July weekend finds you, I hope you find a moment to look around and be proud of the role you play in someone else's story.
Happy July 3rd, friends. Here's to the people behind the scenes who keep America welcoming.
Celebrating America's 250th and the people, partnerships, and shared values that keep hospitality strong. Happy Fourth of July from Carver! 🇺🇲 🎆
