Mapping your client is so important to the success of the service of Scalp micropigmentation! Why? The obvious answer is it is a guide for where you are trying to take your end result. I often explain out loud to the client as we are doing this so that the map has significance and meaning and it is not just a whole bunch of scribbles on the skin.

Explaining out loud involves the client in the process, and it brings the technical into simple form in a visual way.

One tip I would absolutely give is to always start with “modest mapping”. What that means is map a quarter of an inch back from where you are going to end your work. It always gives you room to bring your work forward as you go through and observe session by session.

Modest mapping also includes:

Starting with a “safe needle” and a “safe pigment”
Safe may equate to smaller needle size and a lighter pigment shade. This allows you more control and the ability to have some flexibility. This also saves you if you’re tempted to overwork an area. Trust your TRAINING over your eyes. Follow the process over your emotion.
You can always add to SMP. You cannot Subtract. So work safe in every way. Your results will be better and your client will trust you.
