November Nichols didn't set out to become a perfumer. In 2016, while excelling professionally and navigating personal hardship, she built a ritual to help herself heal — lighting a candle, sipping tea, sitting with herself. When the candle she depended on was discontinued, she learned the science behind it and made her own. That one act of necessity became Chémin, now recognized as one of the world's few Black-owned fragrance houses and the first Black-owned indie brand to launch a 32-SKU collection at JCPenney.
On May 19, November joins Unlock The Science of Beauty for an honest conversation about fragrance as science, as self-expression, and as a career path. This is Giving STEM a Makeover — and this month, the lab is the perfumery.
