Today, we pause to honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. Their courage and selflessness will never be forgotten.
Wishing everyone a safe and meaningful Memorial Day as we remember our fallen heroes.

Memorial Day originated on May 1, 1865, in Charleston, South Carolina, when 10,000 newly freed African Americans, Union soldiers, and missionaries gathered to properly bury and honor hundreds of Union prisoners who had died at a Confederate prison camp. This deeply moving community tribute created the ritual of decorating graves with spring flowers, leading Major General John A. Logan to officially establish "Decoration Day" on May 30, 1868. Over time, the holiday evolved from honoring Civil War casualties to remembering all American military personnel lost in conflict, eventually being renamed Memorial Day and designated as a federal holiday on the last Monday in May.
