This country turns 250 years old this July, and that is no small thing. As someone whose roots in this land go back long before it had a name on a map, Mantra's founder Reena, has always had a complicated, layered, and ultimately deeply loving relationship with America. What she loves most isn't a flag or a date on a calendar. It's the people. The neighbors, the strangers who hold doors, the communities that show up for each other, the sheer beautiful chaos of this many different kinds of humans trying to figure it out together. That's worth celebrating. Happy 250th to every single one of you!

Mantra prides itself (see what I did there?) on offering a safe space for EVERY body. Not just during Pride Month, but EVERY month. For those who have felt uncomfortable or unwelcome in other healing spaces, we invite you. For those who have transitioned, or are currently transitioning, we invite you. Our therapists are not only some of the most experienced in Austin, they are all compassionate, understanding, and informed. The issue of healing EVERY body is a discussion we have with everyone at Mantra before they even come on board. It is so important to us.

Happy Juneteenth this Friday, June 19th!

If you are unclear on the historical significance of Juneteenth to this country and its people - with your grace ... Juneteenth marks June 19, 1865, the day Union General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas and announced that enslaved people in the state were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation had taken effect. The delay happened for a mix of reasons, including the limited presence of Union troops in Texas to enforce the order and slaveholders who deliberately withheld the news to keep extracting labor for as long as possible.

Because Texas was the last Confederate state to receive word of freedom, the day carries particular weight here, and Texans have celebrated it as Emancipation Day since the late 1800s, with gatherings often centered on churches and community since many public spaces barred Black celebrations. In 1980, Texas became the first state to make Juneteenth an official state holiday, a milestone that helped fuel the broader movement that eventually led to it becoming a federal holiday in 2021.

Mantra has traditionally closed its doors for this holiday but Mantra is honoring Juneteenth in a new and different way this year. As a small, local business that provides what we feel is a vital service - especially these days - Mantra Wellness will be open on Friday, June 19th.

So, instead of closing this year, we will be donating 100% of our profits on June 19th to a community-led organization that works for the benefit of Austin's Black community.

Father's Day is this Sunday, and we want to take a moment to celebrate every dad, stepdad, grandfather, and father figure who shows up day after day with love, patience, and probably a terrible joke or two. These are the men who are always there when we need them, and this is our chance to make sure we're there for them.

Let's be honest, most dads are not exactly lining up to take care of themselves. That's where you come in. Treat the father figure in your life to something he'd never splurge on himself, because that's exactly why he deserves it. Stop by and take advantage of our Father's Day specials, or grab him a gift card so he can experience the good stuff on his own time. Either way, we'll make sure he's taken care of the way he takes care of everyone else.
