Happy holidays, lovelies. My old 512 number isn’t working any longer. 512-666-4530 works.

The Top 50 Black Owned Hair Care Brands | NaturallyCurly.com 06/11/2020

SheaMoisture used to be black owned, and that was part of why I originally recommended it so enthusiastically. They were purchased by Unilever in 2017. Here is Naturally Curly’s list of black owned hair care brands. Because you know I’m all about those ingredient lists, I’d have to get down to the specific individual product to start giving recommendations, but this list is a place to start if you’re looking to decolonize your product lineup. One quick rec I can give for sure, if you like DevaCurl’s Wavemaker, try Miss Jessie’s Pillow Soft Curls. It’s very similar in function.

The naturally curly movement wouldn’t exist without the heavy lifting done by the natural hair movement. I’m sorry to say I still won’t be doing hair for some time yet, but I’d like to post some links to help you decolonize your hair routine and dispense information over the next few days specifically related to race and hair.

Symbolica 07/29/2019

Lovelies! I have found an amazing place to recommend. Gina's work is fantastic, and I knew Jasmine in hair school. I can highly recommend both, though Gina's building their clientele. They both do undercuts, s**g cuts, supernatural color, and curls, and they have online booking!

Symbolica By promoting body positivity and celebrating the LGBT+ community, the environment Symbolica creates allows for subversive personal expression.  This unique space is dedicated to your comfort and nurturing your needs.

I'll be at the salon 11-1pm this Saturday and noon-4pm Sunday. Tons of product, Deva, Malibu C, Pravana, Aquage, a few Olaplex part 3, liter and travel size bottles of shampoo/conditioner/deep conditioners, my favorite hairbrushes, a travel dryer, a universal diffuser, a bunch of random stuff. Everything must go! Paper and plastic payment accepted.

Hello my lovelies! If you need DevaCurl products, Malibu products, color, or anything else I've retailed, I'll be at the salon tomorrow from 11a-1:45p. Everything is discounted, and I'll have the baby pirate with me. Come get stuff and/or come say hi! I'll be there next weekend as well for the same purpose, times TBD.

04/12/2019

Hello, my lovelies! This is one of the hardest things I'll ever write. The pirate baby was diagnosed with a CHD, congenital heart defect, the day he was born. You can feel his heart murmur on the outside of his body. He has been in a stable, just-keep-monitoring state for months. However, his diagnosis changed at his most recent visit to the cardiologist indicating he needs a lot more close monitoring and protection from infection, along with possible future surgical intervention, necessitating my staying home with him. I don’t know how long this break will last, and it breaks my heart, but I have to give up the salon space and close my business for a while. This was not what I had planned, but I hear that’s how being a parent works.

I will be discounting my remaining retail and spending some hours at the salon for a couple of Saturdays in a row coming up if you want to purchase any product or visit for a bit. I’ll post here about that when it’s happening.

If you’re the donating kind, the Children’s Heart Foundation is the leading organization in the US funding research in CHD, advancing diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of all forms of CHDs.

The INSTANT I can go to work again (hey, Pre-K is only what, four years away?), you better believe I will start posting here. If you want to be personal facebook friends, feel free to add me! Thank you all, so much, from the bottom of my heart, for supporting my business, and trusting me with your appearance, your families, and your secrets over the years. You are all my heart and joy, and it has been such an honor and pleasure to be your hairapist.

Hello, my lovelies! This motherhood thing is really working for me, except physically. Nothing too serious, but pregnancy has done a number on my skeleton. I'm rehabilitating, but need to stay off my feet until at least mid December, and then we're going to Canada. I won't be back until January, and then the little man will be coming with me a couple of days a week. I hope you're all doing well, that you have a most excellent holiday season, and that these delicious baby eyelashes make your day!

Well it took 41 weeks and six days, but the pirate baby arrived! Simon was born September 22. We’re doing well. Here are some toes for your viewing pleasure!

Hello, lovelies!
We're coming up on my maternity leave, starting August 16.
Information in the comments!

When I am back from maternity leave, I want to do this to someone's head really really badly!
