Resistance exercise tears fascia and muscle, perpetuating trauma or injury. You can try cardio or yoga to move the stuck pieces and return to weights when you're closer to healthy.

Vestibular System
It's a few canals and small organs related to the inner ear that help us orient to gravity, sound, and light. Posture is influenced by this sensory organ system. Yoga helps by stimulating the vestibular area through changing head positions, gazing, and movement. Next time you feel highly sensitive to light, sound, or action in your environment, you can consider yoga instead of lifting or cardio to touch deeper levels of regulation.

The Regulating No
One day after I’d distanced from my family, the word “No” began popping up A LOT throughout my days. It guided me on how to use my time, energy, and resources. It also often showed up in friendships. I worked on a toddler recently, and the Mother seemed concerned that the kiddo was using “No” too frequently. In a healthy, boundaried home, parents welcome the developmental and regulating “No.” I am starting to encourage clients to use “No.” Excellent somatic work provides a place to understand your boundaries more intimately and exercise them without fear. Next time you book me, feel free to holler “No” at any point:) I’ll even give you $10 off a next session for clarifying a need or boundary.

Imprints: Prenatal Trauma and Insight
Prenatal conditions lay the foundation for our bodies, until we build a life that allows our tissues to relax. I was conceived following a miscarriage, and if those feelings remained unprocessed, I could develop that imprint: a struggle to process grief. I've grown to love side-lying sessions, as they replicate the fetal position, and I can hold the mid-upper back in conjunction with the head. Holding the spine in the back activates the nerves that innervate that front-body near the chest and throat. Loosening these tissues and bringing blood into those areas helps us to cry or even touch into our grief more easily.

Solitude: The Goal of the Work
In somatic experiencing, it is described as a container —an internal capacity for what you feel. This is what I strive for and teach others on my table. How to allow anything internal to move and be, and dissolve while alone. It's a common misconception that we need people daily to regulate. That is trauma. Nature provides us with enough sensory input through energetic fields, allowing us to make sense of ourselves and relax. As a life framework, people are a need, but day to day, you're enough if walking around trees for 40 minutes.
