A major animal rescue effort has led to the reported purchase and relocation of 1,500 beagles from Ridglan Farms, a facility long associated with breeding dogs for biomedical research.
According to the campaign groups involved, including Big Dog Ranch Rescue and the Center for a Humane Economy, the dogs had spent their lives inside windowless facilities in stacked metal cages and are now being moved into rehabilitation environments. Reports from former workers and advocates described harsh conditions, including limited exposure to natural light and injuries related to cage environments.
The rescued beagles are being transported to care facilities, including a large rescue operation in Florida, where they will receive veterinary treatment, socialization, and preparation for adoption. Advocates say the goal is to help the dogs adjust to life outside confinement and eventually place them in permanent homes.
While around 500 additional dogs are reportedly still part of ongoing negotiations, rescue organizations say they hope to secure them in future efforts. The campaign has been widely shared as an example of long-term activism leading to large-scale animal welfare change. 🐶❤️

In the Barndoor Hills/Simsbury Rd. area, please be on the lookout for the Blue Heeler pictured below. Her name is Hazel and she is wearing a pink collar with her name on it. Hazel is missing after a house fire and her people desperately want her home.
