Ali | makeup + hair

I played hair + makeup on my friend Sara yesterday! I just love that she wanted a fun hairstyle with the faux hawk look, it was a fun change from just curls!

Side note: I’m not really working much these days in the hair/makeup arena. But I do break out of retirement for friends and family from time to time. And I really have fun playing with hair, so adding that on to makeup helps get me out the door 🤪

My beautiful “ali bride” yesterday !!! Nick and Kimi finally got to celebrate their love and marriage after Covid cancelled their plans twice! For “working” 12 hours yesterday, it was a great time being with these two. Kimi is the sweetest soul you will ever meet, and nothing but positivity radiates from her! It was hot, we took A LOT of photos, she wore her heels the entire time…not once did she complain!

We did a kind of Hollywood glam look for Kimi’s big day. Her hair flip/wave makes me wanna try it out on myself (maybe once my bangs get long and need a trim again)!

Congrats again Nick and Kimi! Hope your day was finally everything you dreamed it to be! Kimi, get Nick out here so we can be neighbors! 😂😂😂

Unfiltered! Always, when I’m talkin makeup, no smoke and mirrors here (as my Drumline teacher used to say). 🥁🥁🥁

A lot of Brides are concerned with the longevity of their makeup, especially here in the hot and humid MidWest summer. I took this pic this week after an intense and sweaty workout session to prove that if you take care of your makeup investment, it can still look awesome at the end of the day! Even after outdoor ceremonies/photos and gettin down on the dance floor! (Or in my case here, a workout).

I only use on my clients what I love for myself…even better actually on my clients b/c I rarely airbrush my own makeup anymore! The right products and your own skills can allow makeup to still look amazing at the end of the night!

Tips:

🦄 When you sweat or get rained on, or cry, DAB at your makeup. NEVER wipe your face!

🦄 If there’s a sweat line say thru your blush, you can spray setting/retouch sprays and gently use a sponge/blender to blend the existing makeup around into the sweat/tear lines. Even can use the tiniest amount of water on your clean hands to dab at your cheeks too.

🦄 When in doubt or if you’re a super sweater or crier, carry your colors with you in your clutch! OR just hire your fly Makeup Artist for an all-day package so they can perfect you whenever you need it! (Although, my Brides rarely ever need touch-ups…sometimes I just go thru the motions and powder their nose or something so they feel pampered and like they are getting value outta my top package, lol!).

My “ali bride” from this past weekend (and last wedding this decade)! Karen is such a sweetie, and I love that she booked me by recommendation from one of our past brides, who was also her Maid of Honor! 🥰

Karen doesn’t wear a lot of makeup on an everyday basis, so she really wanted to keep her look pretty fresh and natural. She opted not to use false lashes, and doesn’t like the feel of lipstick on her lips. Here’s the formula I used to achieve her more natural glam look:
🤍 EYES: MAC Gleam/MAC Warm Pallet Butterfudge and Gingersnap. Too Face Better Than S*x Waterproof mascara
🤍 LINER: Stila black and Urban Decay Bourbon
🤍 FACE: Temptu airbrush semi-matte with NARS concealer and Laura Mercier setting powder
🤍 CHEEKS: MAC blush in Sunny Surprise, Becca highlighter

Healthy hair. This a topic I see a lot of people ask about. I fully have Tammi Ledbetter to thank for nursing mine back to health! It was at a point where it wouldn’t grow any longer. It was breaking and getting shorter in sections that were bleached/pink for years. Now?

My hair is longer than it’s ever been!!! It’s healthy AND I’m still blonde AND I still have my pink sections. How?! That’s Tammi’s expertise, but I can tell you these things:

🦄Wash it ONCE a week. Yep. I plan when to wash it that week around my schedule. It goes up or gets dry shampoo in between. I do wash my bangs only just about every day. Over washing your hair can strip it and leave it dry and damaged. You can get there, just slowly increase the number of days in between washes! This is even with me working out almost every day too!

🦄 Have a plan with your stylist (or just go to Tammi!). Tell them if healthy hair is important to you. Tammi lightens my hair in a way to keep it healthy. We have a system!

🦄 Use the right products. Just about everything that goes on my head is Color Wow ! The wrong products can dry out and also damage your hair. Or cause buildup.

🦄 Be mindful when brushing! I start towards the ends of my hair and work towards the roots to brush out tangles or when wet. Don’t just start at the roots and yank downwards. Slowly and carefully work thru big knots.

🦄 Drink your water!!! It’s so good for your entire body!
