Sensory designer Abby Hinsman creates alchemy between earth and ether. Enchantments from the natural world: botanical perfumes, gemstone jewelry, hand-knotted malas, and outré creations with repurposed fur, precious stones and metals. Handmade with precious flora, oils, gems, minerals, pelts, and crystals. ENCHANTMENT FOR THE NOSE:
Natural perfumery composes alchemical fragrances from purely natur

al sources. Composed of organic, ethically harvested, and wildcrafted essential oils, absolutes, flora, butters, and waxes. Products are handmade to order to ensure vitality and potency. I personally create by hand each natural perfume and synergistic blend using high quality botanical ingredients. This means that while every item is unique, there may be slight variations within a perfume depending on the season and the source of the raw materials. Intimate and subtle, natural perfumes wear close to the body. They radiate their fragrance for a few hours before softening completely into the skin. You will probably notice that these artisanal perfumes smell quite different in the bottle or jar than on your body. As your skin warms the wax or oil emulsion, the plant essences mingle with your particular biochemistry, activating a unique scent [*green alchemy*]. For me, part of the pleasure lies in reapplication, periodically renewing your sensual bond with organic matter. Botanical oils contain wonderful therapeutic benefits, and so you may find a blend rejuvenates not only your senses, but mind and body. My perfumes are handcrafted from essential oils, absolutes, CO2 extracts, and other botanical compounds, wild harvested or organic when possible. They do not contain preservatives, alcohol, fragrance oils, artificial colors or flavorings, SLS, or parabens of any kind. ENCHANTMENT FOR THE BODY:
Cultivating physical and metaphysical enchantments of the natural world, my mineral jewelry line includes hand-knotted malas, earrings, necklaces, bracelets, rings and pendants. Whether composed of crystals, stones, or metals, each of my pieces is handmade and unique, an alchemical celebration of the beauty and powerful healing jewels found on earth. ENCHANTMENT FOR THE EYE:
Ink +colored pencil drawings for Wild Veil are done by me. I take the photographs featured in my home garden, with organic plants, vibrant fabrics from Zambia, and vintage textiles. Six years ago, I placed Tieguanyin (Iron Goddess of Mercy) into alcohol.

Today, time has revealed something entirely different.

After years of patient evaporation, the tincture has become a dense tea absolute—hard, fractured, and glittering like tiny shards of amber. Each crystalline chip holds an astonishing concentration of aroma.

The scent is remarkably nuanced: orchid nectar, warm cream, steamed milk, fresh butter, apricot, golden osmanthus, sugarcane, roasted chestnut, and the cool mineral impression of wet porcelain. It is unmistakably Tieguanyin, yet transformed by time into something quieter, deeper, and impossibly concentrated.

These in-house tea absolutes are prepared from long-aged tinctures rather than commercial solvent extraction. Every one represents years of waiting, watching, and allowing the botanical to slowly reveal its aromatic heart.

One of Wild Veil's earliest celestial perfumes is back in a new July 2026 edition.

Built around my own handcrafted Gardenia jasminoides extract, Star imagines the flower as something suspended beyond the garden—ivory petals illuminated against infinite darkness.

Months of aging have quietly transformed the composition, allowing creamy gardenia, antique orris butter, botanical musks, black figs, aged vanilla, tonquin, incense, and ambered resins to become a single atmosphere rather than separate notes.

Monge Lilac Enfleurage

A Botanical Portrait

For the first time, Wild Veil presents a single-cultivar lilac enfleurage devoted entirely to Monge.

This one is strange and compelling—a darker, more textural lilac.

Aroma:

Plum skin
Wine-soaked petals
Damp green wood
Faint cocoa or shadowed sweetness
There’s a ferment-adjacent depth here—even fresh.

In enfleurage:

Develops dusky fruit tones (plum, almost fig skin)
Petal becomes thicker, less airy
Slight earthy undertone can emerge (beautiful if controlled)

Twilight lilac.
Less about bloom, more about depth and interiority.

Celebrated for its immense panicles of vivid magenta blossoms, Monge possesses one of the most exuberant fragrances among French lilacs. Each flower was harvested by hand at peak bloom and meticulously prepared for enfleurage. Thousands of individual florets were laid onto fat and replaced repeatedly as they faded, preserving the living fragrance of the blossoms through one of perfumery's oldest extraction methods.
